BIRMINGHAM - Julio Ricardo Cruz admitted the week's training had taken its toll after the Nerazzurri's pre-season defeat to Aston Villa. "We were tired. Too tired to face a team already in championship form," El Jardinero said.

"Aston Villa ran more than us and got to the ball before we did, but we still had two chances to equalise at the end of the first half.

"What counts though is the work we have done and that we will continue to do. In Brunico before and here in England after, we are laying the athletic foundations for a hard season, and this is what counts most for us."
