MILAN - Inter exit the Champions League at the round of 16 stage as Liverpool followed up their 2-0 win at Anfield with a 1-0 victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Fernando Torres scored after Nicolas Burdisso was sent off to see the Reds join Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Fenerbahçe, Manchester United, Roma and Schalke 04 in the quarter-finals.
Mancini's team had the better chances in the first half, with Julio Cruz testing Reina with a low effort before he sent an angled drive inches wide.
Inter's difficult task was made even harder five minutes after the restart when Burdisso was given his marching orders for a second yellow after a foul on Lucas Leiva.
Ibrahimovic went close to reducing the gap, his low effort from the right edge of the box finishing a whisker wide.
Liverpool secured victory on 64 minutes when Torres fired a crisp shot past Julio Cesar after collecting Fabio Aurelio's assist and swivelling on the edge of the box.
The Reds could have added to their lead but Julio Cesar pulled off a terrific save from Benayoun.
