APPIANO GENTILE - President Massimo Moratti spoke on Inter Channel after watching José Mourinho and the Nerazzurri at work during the first training session of the pre-season.

This is what he had to say:

Moratti, a new season with a new coach starts. There's lots of enthusiasm from the fans...
"Yes. I have to say that besides the fact that Mourinho himself asked me last night, my reason for me being here today was due to my curiosity of seeing how the training sessions were planned. It was important to understand and I was curious to see, both as a fan and as the person in charge of the club."

What were your impressions?
"There's great dynamism. Mourinho is a very dynamic person and he transmits this characteristic in his work. He's very attentive and precise, and at the same time he keeps this dynamism constant. I was struck by the liveliness of the work and the constant presence of the ball."

In yesterday's press conference Mourinho said he wouldn't accept any lateness for training. Everyone was very early today. A message that hit home...
(Smiles) "Yes. Even I was almost worried about being late... This was a public message that he gave, and I think he spoke to the players with lots of clarity, fondness and faith. He's trying to create an atmosphere of discipline and mutual trust."

How do you explain this great enthusiasm from the fans?
"It's curiosity and enthusiasm towards someone who gives you the impression of being a cut above the rest, so you try to understand what it is that he has. It's an important thing because he's not a player, but someone who gets everyone playing."

In yesterday's press conference Mourinho explained the fundamental points of his project. For example, he wants to create more competition in the various roles by not having too big a squad...
"This is common sense too. I think that no coach likes having too much competition, and sometimes this can humiliate some players who don't deserve it. This is the most unpleasant thing, it also happened with Mancini and the other coaches when they had to decide to send someone into the stands. He's trying to avoid this situation by having a team with a logical and rational squad. Naturally, it's not easy to do this, but he realises this too."

There was talk of the transfer market yesterday, and most of all, of Frank Lampard...
"As in all these things, a lot depends on the desire of the player in this situation. We are waiting for him to express this desire. Lampard is a very serious lad and is certainly in limbo between the pleasure of doing one thing and the sense of duty towards his current club. Both things are nice, but in the end it will be up to him to find a solution."

But the feeling is that Inter are also looking at alternatives to the Englishman...
"Yes, certainly. Lampard is a priority, but in these cases you look around. It's not easy to find a player because we're talking about a team in which every player is of a very high level. We need to find one with all the characteristics to complete this group, and there aren't that many. A short while ago we were talking with the coach about looking for a player who has the most similar characteristics to those of Lampard if we're not able to get him."

Mourinho also wants a few youngsters in the squad and Daniele Bernazzani, the coach of the championship-winning Allievi Nazionali team, is in your staff for this first phase of the season. Important planning for the future...
"I think this is a characteristic of this club and of everything that has been done in past years. Bernazzani deserves to be here and I'm pleased for him. He's a very serious lad, he's good, and these are important qualities. I'm very pleased that he's close to the first team because he knows how to transmit the values of an educated and serious person, who knows how to work. And I'm pleased that Mourinho likes him as well. As a consequence these youngsters will become important too. It will be up to them to do well and then return to the Primavera and give their all in their team."
