APPIANO GENTILE - Inter coach José Mourinho briefed the press at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti ahead of Saturday's big match against Juventus at the Giuseppe Meazza:
This is what he had to say:
Mourinho, before the Milan derby you said it would be a normal game. Are you thinking the same ahead of Inter-Juventus?
"Yes, it's a normal game and as always, it's worth three points."
Has your relationship with Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri softened a bit?
"The relationship between me and Ranieri is your problem, not ours. I don't like publicity in personal things. We spoke in Coverciano on Monday without the press and without a spectacle, just like two colleagues who do their job. This is enough for me. At the Meazza tomorrow night I will wait for Ranieri in the tunnel just like I do with all the other coaches. It's me that's playing at home and I have to be polite with my colleagues. As always, I will behave in the same way I do with the all the others."
Do you intend to call up Adriano for tomorrow's game? What is your opinion of the Brazilian's declarations?
"All the available players will be called up. I completely agree with what he said: every player always wants to play and is made to play. If he's not playing he has to change, and we're agreed on this."
Are you willing to put Adriano at the same level as all the others?
"It's him that has to put himself at the level of all the others. For me, they are all at the same level. How was he yesterday? Julio Cesar and Maicon have families and live in Milan so I thought it was better for them to go home and rest. Adriano lives in Como and it was easier for him to come here and work with Rui Faria for half an hour. It was a light session after a long trip, to help the player get back in top condition after an international match followed by a trip."
Would you have preferred Adriano to make declarations like these at a different time? Did Adriano get his timing wrong?
"No, no. For me he could have said this today, yesterday, the day before yesterday or tomorrow. What he said was absolutely normal and I agree with him completely. If Adriano does everything his team-mates do he's a player like the others because he has great quality and great possibilities of playing with us. But there's nothing new in what I'm saying or what he said. For me it's all normal."
Where will this match be won?
"On the pitch. You win on the pitch. You don't win with the press, you don't win by talking or provoking. You win on the pitch."
On the subject of provocations, a Juventus official made some fairly confident declarations... Does Juventus' optimism scare you a bit?
"No. I don't know the people, I don't know the mentality, and I'm not bothered about knowing them. The last time in my career a president told me he would win against my team was when I was Porto and we were playing against Benfica. They lost in the end... Anyway, I don't know the Juventus president and his personality, and I'm not interested in meeting him. We do our job; I have kept quiet all week. I spoke for a minute in a meeting that I thought was only among colleagues, in which we could communicate, discuss our things and learn from one another. But it wasn't like this. It was a meeting between coaches and the press. I didn't talk about the match against Juventus, I'm doing so for the first time today and I'm only talking about Inter. In summary, it's a normal game for me, but I don't want to talk about what the president, coach and Juventus players said. The day after tomorrow it will be Sunday and it will be another day."
With Ivan Cordoba disqualified, you won't be able to play the same team tomorrow. Do you already know who you will play in place of the Colombian?
"Yes, I have already decided. Will I tell you? No."
Is it more a clash between Mourinho and Ranieri on a tactical level, or Ibrahimovic versus Del Piero on the pitch?
"Neither one nor the other. It's just Inter-Juventus."
What kind of game are you expecting tomorrow?
"I really don't know. The only obvious thing for me is how I want my team to play, which players I think should start the game, and who should go on the bench as solutions to improve or help the team in a certain moment of the match. I can't imagine anything else. It's often a small detail that changes a match completely."
Do you think Inter are stronger than Juventus?
"My team is always the strongest. I coached Leiria in Portugal and I played against Benfica and Porto and I said that my team was better. So imagine now that I'm coach of Inter, or when I coached Chelsea in the past. What do you want me to say? My team is always the best, my players are always the best. And to the question you always ask me about which player from an opposing team I would like to have in my squad, my reply is no one."
