SIENA - José Mourinho is satisfied with the Nerazzurri's display in Siena, but admitted that his team did not deserve to come home with all three points.
"I'm not surprised by Siena's performance," said the Inter coach. "We didn't deserve to win tonight and I'm not just saying this because of the goal that might have been offside. I would still have said it if it had been a clear goal in a clear situation.
"There were other offside decisions that didn't go in our favour, like the one with Crespo. If they hadn't given it he would have been in front of the goalkeeper and could easily have scored, and if he had, we wouldn't be here talking about a victory obtained with a goal scored from an offside position. Let's not forget that there are episodes in our favour and against, but I just prefer to say that we didn't deserve to win today.
"Siena played very well. They pressed us very hard and made it difficult for us to keep possession. Compliments to Giampaolo, but I'm satisfied with my team's performance. I knew the limits. Balotelli and Jimenez hadn't been back for long and Stankovic, who is a certainty for us, wasn't here tonight, but confidence is fundamental for a player and I prefer to risk rather than losing the self-confidence of one of my boys, especially before the winter break.
"I think Balotelli and Jimenez were below par but it was very important for them to play tonight, especially Luis who found room in the team today and this is a very important sign because we played 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield without Stankovic. Cambiasso was our best player tonight. He did everything, and everything well.
"I knew the limits of my team tonight but I'm satisfied with their attitude and concentration, which they kept high until the end. Winning was a great feat for us because we didn't play well and we know it, but we still brought home three points and this was the most important thing.
"I'm satisfied with our spirit in these first few months of the championship. This is the spirit of champions. We have now won eight consecutive matches and we have a nine-point lead over Juventus and twelve points more than Milan."
On his embrace with Maicon after the Brazilian's second goal, Mourinho explained: "I celebrated because the goal came when I thought we would no longer score. I react much more coldly if a goal comes from the logical consequence of a play, because I'm expecting it."
From Inter's performance in Siena to the arrival of David Beckham. "I'm very happy that Beckham has arrived in Milan," said Mourinho. "He's a very important player and this will certainly be good for Italian football, which is moving in the right direction."
