Lippi's goalkeeping dilemma

Juve coach Marcello Lippi can choose between goalkeepers Chimenti and Buffon for the semi-final return leg. Inter are the second most prolific side against Chimenti with 22 goals, while Perugia have put 24 past the 33-year-old keeper. Inter have scored more against Buffon than any other team apart from Roma (22 goals), with 20 black and blue goals in matches against the Italy custodian. Chimenti's nightmare is called Alvaro Recoba. Il Chino has put 7 goals past him, more than any other player: 1 in Venezia-Roma (1998/99 Serie A), 1 in Inter-Lecce (1999/00 Serie A), 1 in Lecce-Inter (2000/01 Coppa Italia), 2 in Lecce- Inter (2000/01 Serie A) and 2 in Lecce-Inter (2001/02 Serie A). With 6 goals, Vieri is the player who has scored most against Buffon: 1 in Parma 1-3 Lazio (1998/99 Serie A), 1 in Inter 5-1 Parma (1999/00 Serie A), 1 in Parma 1-1 Inter (1999/00 Serie A), 1 in Inter 1-1 Parma (2000/01 Serie A), 1 in Parma 3-1 Inter (2000/01 Serie A) and 1 in Inter 1-1 Juventus (2002/03 Serie A).

Juve: no away draw in cup for 3 years

The Bianconeri haven't drawn a domestic cup match since 16 September 2000, when they played out a 0-0 stalemate at Brescia. Since then, Juventus have garnered 5 wins and 3 defeats.

Bianconeri close to 100th goal away to Inter

In 87 matches between Juve and Inter in Milan since the Italian championship became a one-division affari, the Bianconeri have put 99 goals past the Nerazzurri. The first was scored by Giovanni Vecchina in the 4th minute of Inter 2-3 Juventus on 18 January 1931.

Nerazzurri unbeaten in 5 cup matches

Inter are still undefeated in the 2003/04 Coppa Italia, with 2 home victories and 3 away draws to their credit. The last time the Nerazzurri went 6 or more domestic cup matches without defeat was from August 1996 to October 1997: 6 wins and 4 draws.

Lamouchi v Buffon

Sabri Lamouchi, who has scored 9 goals in official matches since coming to Italy, counts Buffon as his favourite target. The French midfielder has scored 2 goals against the Juventus keeper, one in each match between Parma and the Bianconeri in the 2001/02 season.

Inter hadn't finished a Coppa Italia match with a penalty shoot-out since 26 February 1997. On that occasion, also a semi-final, the Nerazzurri were beaten 6-4 by Napoli.

MILAN - Juventus are through to the final of the Tim Cup after a controversial semi-final return leg at the San Siro. With the score at 2-2 after extra time (4-4 on aggregate), Juventus won the penalty shoot-out thanks to Miccoli's goal after Vieri's spot-kick was saved by Chimenti.

A frenetic first-half saw the Nerazzurri off to a flier when Adriano beat the Bianconeri offside trap then took Stankovic's superb assist round Chimenti before slotting left-footed into an open goal.

Only the woodwork stopped Zac's men from increasing their lead. Bobo Vieri's low shot from Kily's forward pass came back off the right-hand post, then the Argentine midfielder hit the post with a splendid 20-metre strike after a short pass back from the Italy striker.

The Bianconeri equalised through Tudor just before the break. From close range the Croatian tapped into an open goal after Miccoli's shot fell loose after deflecting off Helveg.

The second half was even more dramatic than the opening forty-five minutes. Ivan Ramiro Cordoba received a straight red card for a foul on Juve sub Nedved, then at the other end Pellegrino failed to award a penalty after Emre was clearly brought down in the box by Montero. Needless to say, the Meazza roared its disapproval.

The visitors took advantage of their numerical superiority and took the lead through Alex Del Piero, who unmarked at the near post headed home Miccoli's right-wing corner. But the Nerazzurri's motto 'non mollare mai' (never give up) rang true and in the last minute of added time Daniele Adani prodded home from six yards to force extra time.

After thirty minutes of extra time which did neither side's players any good, everything went down to a penalty shoot-out. Farinos, Adriano, Stankovic and Helveg all converted their spot kicks, with Del Piero, Maresca, Nedved and Legrottaglie equal to the Nerazzurri. Vieri's penalty was saved by Chimenti then Miccoli stepped up and sent Fontana the wrong way and Juventus into the final.
