MILAN - Tuesday's Uefa Champions League quarter-final second leg between Inter and AC Milan was abandoned with 15 minutes left to play, with the Rossoneri 1-0 up (3-0 on aggregate) thanks to Shevchenko's goal after 30 minutes of the first half. Uefa's Control and Disciplinary Body will decide if the result stands after investigating incidents which saw play initially suspended after objects were thrown on to the pitch, then definitively abandoned for the same reason after play had resumed.

Andriy Shevchenko gave Milan the lead on the half hour, his left-footed drive from the edge of the box giving Toldo little chance of making a save. But as in the first leg, Inter created more scoring chances and it took an excellent save from Dida to deny the Nerazzurri an immediate equaliser from a Kily Gonzalez screamer. Adriano headed wide of the post, Javier Zanetti and Veron both had shots blocked, then Cafu headed a Shevchenko cross wide at the other end before the break.

Mancini made two half-time changes, bringing on Mihajlovic for Cristiano Zanetti and Cruz for Kily Gonzalez, and was forced to replace Adriano with Martins on 51 minutes after the Brazilian stopped up during a duel with Nesta. Oba added zip in attack and saw his angled shot hit Dida and come off the post as the Nerazzurri pushed hard to level.

In an all-out assault on the Milan goal, Veron fired inches wide of the post then Martins saw a diagonal shot saved by Dida before Esteban Cambiasso had a headed goal from Mihajlovic's corner ruled out for a Cruz foul on the keeper. In protest, fans threw objects on to the pitch, one hitting Dida, which led to the match being suspended in the 73rd minute, then abandoned in the 75th minute after the game had restarted following a twenty-minute interruption.
