Bruno Conti story

Bruno Conti was born in Nettuno (Rome) on 13 March 1955. He spent most of his playing career at Roma, wearing the Giallorossi shirt from 1972/73 to 1974/75, 1976/77 to 1977/78 and 1979/80 to 1989/90. In his two seasons away from the capital (1975/76 and 1978/79), Conti played for Genoa in the Serie B. Conti played 283 Serie A matches for Roma and scored 35 goals, winning a Scudetto in 1982/83 and 4 Italian Cups in 1979/80, 1980/81, 1983/84 and 1985/86. At international level, Conti played 47 matches and scored 5 goals for Italy, and was a World Cup winner at Spain '82. Before replacing Luigi Del Neri as Roma coach, Conti was in charge of the Giallorossi youth academy. He has coached Roma in three Coppa Italia matches (1 victory, 1 draw and 1 defeat).

Mancini & the Coppa Italia

No player has played more Coppa Italia finals than Roberto Mancini (15 appearances from AC Milan 0-1 Sampdoria on 30 May 1985 to Inter 0-0 Lazio on 18 May 2000). Mancini has also lifted more Italian Cups than any other player, (four times with Sampdoria in 1984/85, 1987/88, 1988/89 and 1993/94, and twice with Lazio in 1997/98 and 1999/00). And since he has become a coach, Mancini has added two more domestic cups, one with Fiorentina in 2001 (Parma 0-1 Fiorentina, Fiorentina 1-1 Parma) and the other with Lazio last season (Lazio 2-0 Juventus, Juventus 2-2 Lazio).

Conti v Mancini

The current Roma coach faces Inter coach Mancini and the Nerazzurri for the first time.

Mancini set for 200th match as coach

The final first leg at the Olimpico is Roberto Mancini's 200th match as a coach. Mancini, who has coached Fiorentina, Lazio and Inter, has totalled 136 Serie A matches, 24 Coppa Italia matches, 38 European games and 1 other fixture, with 89 victories, 64 draws and 46 defeats. He has won 2 Italian Cups (with Fiorentina in 2000/01 and with Lazio in 2003/04). Mancini, who was fired by Fiorentina in 2001/02 after taking over at the Tuscan club during the 2000/01 season, made his coaching debut on 11 March 2001 (Perugia 2-2 Fiorentina in Serie A).

Collina set for fourth final

Bologna-born referee Pierluigi Collina (Viareggio section) has been a professional Serie A & B referee since the 1991/92 season. He has officiated in 31 Coppa Italia matches (19 home wins, 7 away wins and 54 draws), and made his domestic cup 'debut' in Ancona 1-0 Barletta on 21 August 1991. Collina has refereed just one cup match this season - Genoa's 3-3 draw at home to Torino in the group phase last 29 August. On Sunday he will officiate in his fourth Coppa Italia final after Parma 0- 2 Juventus (1994/95), Juventus 2-1 Parma (2001/02) and Lazio 2-0 Juventus (2003/04).

Sixth Roma-Inter clash for Collina

At the Olimpico on Sunday Collina referees Roma-Inter for the sixth time.

Details of previous five matches:

2000/01 Serie A: Roma 3-2 Inter
1993/94 Serie A: Roma 1-1 Inter
2002/03 Serie A: Inter 3-3 Roma
2003/04 Serie A: Inter 0-0 Roma
1998/99 Serie A: Roma 4-5 Inter

Mancini close to Eriksson record

Sven Goran Eriksson has won more Italian Cups than any other coach, and is the only person to have done so with three different teams (Roma in 1985/86, Sampdoria in 1993/94 and Lazio in 1997/98 and 1999/00). If Inter win the cup this season Roberto Mancini will equal Eriksson's record, having already won the competition with Fiorentina in 2000/01 and Lazio in 2003/04.

Roma chasing Juve cup record

Roma-Inter is the 57th Coppa Italia final. The competition was founded in 1922 and Vado were the first winners with a 1-0 victory over Udinese after extra time. Sixteen different teams have won the tournament. Juventus are out in front with 9 cup wins, followed by Roma (7), Fiorentina (6), AC Milan and Torino (5 each), Lazio and Sampdoria (4 each), Inter, Napoli and Parma (3 each), Bologna (2) and Atalanta, Genoa, Vado, Venezia and Vicenza (1 each).

Two-legged final number 29

The Coppa Italia final format has not always been the same. In 28 cases there have been two-legged finals to decide the winners (in 1937/38, 1940/41, 1941/42, 1963/64 and 1980/81 to the present day). There has been a final group phase 3 times, and a one-match final played on a neutral ground on 25 occasions. According to the 28 two- legged final statistics, the team at home in the first leg has gone on to lift the cup on 13 occasions.

No Inter win in Rome since 1998/99

The two teams have played 77 competitive matches in the capital, with 33 Roma wins (most recent one a 4-1 victory in 2003/04 Serie A), 20 draws (last one a 3-3 stalemate in 2004/05) and 24 Inter wins (last one a 5-4 victory in 1998/99 Serie A). Inter are therefore without a win against Roma at the Olimpico in six matches, with 4 draws and 2 defeats.

Roma unbeaten at home to Inter in cup

Roma have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 4 of their 8 Italian Cup matches against Inter, but have never lost at home, with 2 wins and a draw.

Thirteen players top the list of scorers in Coppa Italia finals, with three goals each: Amadei, Batistuta, Bellini, Cerezo, Charles, Domenghini, Fiore, Giannini, Lushta, Mancini, Savoldi, Totti and Vialli. Three of those have scored a hat-trick in one final: Amadei (Roma 3-3 Venezia in 1941), Lushta (Juventus 4-1 AC Milan in 1942), Domenghini (Atalanta 3- 1 Torino in 1963) and Giannini (Roma 5-2 Torino in 1993).

Inter unbeaten on road to final

Inter entered the competition at the round of sixteen stage and disposed of Bologna with two 3-1 victories over the Rossoblu to set up and quarter-final clash with Atalanta. The Bergamo Nerazzurri were beaten 1-0 at home then lost 3-0 at the Meazza as Inter marched on to the semis and a clash with Cagliari. After a 1-1 draw at the Sant'Elia Inter dominated the retun leg and won 3-1 to book their place in the final. Inter are therefore unbeaten in the Coppa Italia this season with 5 victories and 1 draw. Of Inter's 14 cup goals, Martins has scored 6, followed by Vieri (3), Cruz and Recoba (2 each) and Emre (1).

Inter unbeaten in 12 cup games

The Nerazzurri's last Coppa Italia defeat was the 2-1 loss at home to Bari on 19 December 2002. Inter have since registered 7 victories and 5 draws. Inter's longest unbeaten cup run is 20 matches between May 1986 and April 1988.

Inter unbeaten on road in Coppa since December 2002

The Nerazzurri's last Coppa Italia defeat away from home was on 5 December 2002 when they were beaten 1-0 by Bari. Since then Inter have won 2 and drawn 4 cup domestic matches played away from home.

ROME - A brace of goals from Brazilian centre-forward Adriano at the Olimpico gives Inter a 2-0 lead going into Wednesday's Coppa Italia final return leg against Roma.

The Giallorossi made the brighter start to the contest, Cassano's close-range shot in the opening minute saved by Toldo. Adriano then had a headed goal ruled out for a foul on Ferrari before Cassano struck the left post with a shot from a Totti cross.

Inter gained in composure as the match went on and broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when Adriano beat Curci with a 40-yard screamer that the Giallorossi keeper got a hand to, but couldn't stop from hitting the back of the net. The Emperor's goal took the wind out of Roma's sails as Inter continued to push for a second. And it wasn't long in coming as five minutes later Adriano rose in the box to head home a Ze Maria corner.

The Nerazzurri defended their lead well after the restart, second-half substitute Montella going closest to a Roma reply when his near-range goal from a Mancini cross was disallowed for offside. Inter's best chance of the second forty-five fell to Obafemi Martins, who had a header saved by Curci.
