First Super Cup between Inter and Roma

Inter and Roma meet in an Italian Super Cup for the first time in the competition's history. There have been two Super Cup matches between AC Milan and Sampdoria (1988, 1994), AC Milan and Parma (1992, 1999), and Juventus and Parma (1995, 2002).

Four Super Cups to Coppa Italia holders

Inter v Roma is the 19th edition of the Italian Super Cup, contested between the winners of the Italian Serie A and the Coppa Italia in the previous season. Scudetto winners have lifted the Super Cup on 14 occasions, and Coppa Italia winners have won it four times (Fiorentina in 1996, Lazio in 1998, Parma in 1999 and Inter last season).

Three likely scorers against Roma

According to the statistics three Inter players are candidates to score against Roma: Adriano, Esteban Cambiasso and Alvaro Recoba. Of his 92 goals since moving to Italy, the Brazilian forward has scored 6 in matches against Roma. Adriano has also put six past Juventus. Uruguayan striker Recoba has a total of 82 goals in matches for Italian teams and has scored 6 against Roma, Bologna and Lecce. Argentine midfielder Cambiasso has scored 8 goals since joining Inter. Two of those have come in matches against the Giallorossi.

Inter: 15-match scoring run at home

Inter have scored in their last 15 home matches. The Nerazzurri last failed to score at the Giuseppe Meazza in the 0-0 draw with Parma on 12 January 2006. Mancini's side have netted 31 goals in the 15 home games played since that date.

Roma: 8-match scoring run away

Roma scored and conceded goals in their last eight away matches of the 2005/06 season (14 igoals scored, 19 let in). The Giallorossi's last away match without scoring was the 1-0 UEFA Cup defeat at Middlesbrough on 9 March 2006 while their last game without conceding was the 2-0 derby win 'away' to Lazio on 26 February 2006. Roma have conceded goals in nine consecutive away matches, letting in a total of 20 goals.

Roma two away from 200 goals against Inter

Roma have scored 198 goals in competitive matches against Inter since the Italian top flight became a one- division championship in 1929/30. The first Giallorossi player to score against Inter was Oreste Benatti in a 2-0 Serie A victory in the capital on 24 November 1929.

Fourth Super Cup appearance for Inter, third for Roma

Inter and Roma are two of the eleven teams who have taken part in an Italian Super Cup. Saturday's match at the Meazza is the Nerazzurri's fourth Super Cup appearance and Roma's third. Inter have won two out of the three Super Cup matches played, beating Sampdoria 2-0 in 1989 and Juventus 1-0 after extra time last season. They lost 4-3 to Lazio at the Olimpico in 2000. The Giallorossi lost 1-0 to Samp in 1991 and beat Fiorentina a decade later to lift the trophy. AC Milan hold the record for the most Super Cup appearances: 8.

Mancini looking to make it two in a row

Fabio Capello and Marcello Lippi are the most successful Super Cup coaches, with four titles apiece. Capello has won three with AC Milan and 1 with Roma while Lippi has lifted the Super Cup four times with Juventus. Sven Goran Eriksson has won it twice, and Ancelotti, Bigon, Boskov, Malesani, Mancini, Ranieri, Sacchi, Trapattoni have each coached teams to one Super Cup triumph.

Inter, third team to win Super Cup in consecutive seasons?

A victory over Roma on Saturday will see Inter become the third team to win the Italian Super Cup two years running. Only AC Milan and Juventus have managed consecutive Super Cup victories in the competition's 19-year history. The Rossoneri won it three times in a row with victories against Parma, Torino and Sampdoria in 1992, 1993 and 1994. Juventus won back-to-back Super Cups in 2002 and 2003.

Julio Cesar and goals conceded against Roma

Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar has let in 30 goals in 40 competitive matches for Inter. Of those, 5 have come in matches against Super Cup opponents Roma. Giallorossi captain Francesco Totti has scored twice against Julio Cesar, as has Palermo's summer signing Aimo Diana.

Super Cup top scorers: Del Piero & Shevchenko

Alessandro Del Piero and Andriy Shevchenko are the two Italian Super Cup top scorers, with three goals apiece. Del Piero scored once in Juventus' 2-1 win over Lazio in 1998 and twice in the 2-1 victory against Parma in 2002. Shevchenko scored a hat-trick in the Rossoneri's 3-0 win against Lazio in 2004.

Three players with 6 Super Cup appearances

Alessandro Costacurta, Alessandro Del Piero and Paolo Maldini share the record for Italian Super Cup appearances. The three veterans have played in the competition six times.

MILAN - Inter came back from three goals down to beat Roma 4-3 after extra time and lift the Italian Super Cup for the second season running.

Patrick Vieira scored twice with Hernan Crespo and Luis Figo adding the others as Mancini's men staged an incredible fightback to seal Inter their third Italian Super Cup triumph in the competition's 19-year history. Inter become the third club to win back-to-back Super Cup titles after Juventus (2002, 2003) and AC Milan (1992, 1993, 1994).

Luciano Spalletti's side ran rings around the Nerazzurri in the first half with Alberto Aquilani scoring twice after Mancini's opener to put Roma 3-0 up after just 34 minutes.

Roma took a 13th-minute lead through Amantino Mancini who nodded in after Zanetti and Toldo failed to clear Panucci's cross.

Aquilani added his team's second goal twelve minutes later, sliding past Toldo and into the bottom left-hand corner after a defence-splitting one-two with Francesco Totti.

The Giallorossi capitalised on Inter's indecision at the back, Aquilani finishing off a well-worked move to score his second and give the visitors a seemingly unassailable lead.

But it wasn't to be. Vieira opened his scoring account for Inter on the stroke of half time to give the Nerazzurri a lifeline. The France captain rose in the box and powered a header from Figo's cross past goalkeeper Doni.

Roberto Mancini made two early changes in the second half, bringing on Maicon for Fabio Grosso and Hernan Crespo for Adriano. The Argentine forward obliged with Inter's second goal four minutes later, stealing in at the near post to meet Stankovic's whipped cross and direct his header over the line.

Playing with renewed belief, Inter continued to produce chances coming forward and drew level when Vieira slid Ibrahimovic's cross-shot into the roof of the net and lift the roof off the Meazza.

Luis Figo completed the comeback in the first period of extra time, finding the top left corner with a well taken free kick to make it a good end to a bad start.

It was the opposite for Roma, who finished the match with ten men after Cristian Chivu was shown a straight red card for sarcastically applauding the referee following a challenge on Cambiasso.
