Inter last team to beat Empoli at Castellani

Empoli haven't lost a Serie A match at home since 10 December 2006 when they were beaten 3-0 by Inter. Since that date the Azzurri have collected 8 league wins and 3 draws. Inter's 3-0 win at the Castellani is Empoli's only defeat in their last 16 league games at home. In the other 15 matches the Tuscans have won 9 and drawn 6.

Raggi set for milestone appearance

If he plays against Inter at the Castellani, Andrea Raggi will make his 100th competitive appearance as a professional player. Besides his current club Empoli, the defender has also played for Carrarese. Pinzi, who made his debut in Carrarese 1-2 Imolese (Serie C2) on 7 September 2003, has collected 61 appearances in Serie A, 9 in Serie B and 29 in Serie C2.

Giacomazzi and goals in September

Empoli's Uruguayan striker Guillermo Giacomazzi has scored more in September than in any other month of the year since he moved to Italy. Nine of his 25 goals have come in matches played in the ninth calendar month.

Last Inter away defeat in Serie A at Empoli

Empoli 1-0 Inter on 30 April 2006 was the Nerazzurri's last league defeat away from home. The match was settled by Marco Materazzi's own goal. Since that date Inter have collected 15 wins and 5 draws from their Serie A travels.

Inter goalless in just one of last 15 away league games

The Nerazzurri have failed to score in just one of their last 15 Serie A away matches: Reggina 0-0 Inter on 7 April 2007. Mancini's team have notched 33 goals from the 14 away games played since that date.

EMPOLI - Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored in each half as Inter beat Empoli at the Stadio Castellani.

The Swedish forward tucked home Maicon's cross early on, adding his second goal of the season from Cesar's pass in the final minutes to send the Tuscans to their first home defeat in the league since last December.

Roberto Mancini fielded a 4-4-2 formation for Inter's second game of the Serie A campaign, with Toldo in between the posts in place of the suspended Julio Cesar.

The Nerazzurri made the stronger start to an evenly balanced first half and could have taken an early lead through Brazilian left-winger Cesar who fired wide his angled shot from Ibrahimovic's pass.

The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when Ibrahimovic stole in a the back post to poke home Maicon's splendid inswinger from the right.

Empoli were left to rue a glaring miss by Antonini as the Nerazzurri stepped up a gear before half time, an invigorated Suazo going close with a 20-yard bullet shot.

Suazo came out for the second half firing on all cylinders and could have doubled Inter's lead two minutes in when his strong low shot forced a two-fisted block from Balli.

From then on in it was all Empoli as the Nerazzurri appeared to sit on their lead and rely on counter-attacks.

Tosto forced a tipped save with a left-wing cross-shot that dipped dangerously on target. Inter's veteran Italian keeper then made a miraculous reflex with his feet to deny Pozzi.

And some alert defending from Cordoba and Samuel kept Empoli at bay.

Mancini's reaction was to bring on Figo for Suazo and replace Maxwell with Chivu.

With an extra man in the middle Inter saw more possession of the ball in the closing stages.

The reward came seven minutes from time. Figo played across the face of the area for the impressive Cesar who served Ibrahimovic, and the Swede slotted his second of the game past a hapless Balli.
