MILAN - Inter held Roma 1-1 in a table-topping clash that had everything.

Javier Zanetti scored a dramatic equaliser two minutes from time after Roma thought Francesco Totti's first-half goal was enough to throw open the title race.

The result keeps Mancini's men nine points clear of the capital side.

Both teams made a fast and furious start at the Meazza.

Inter went close 19 minutes through Hernan Crespo. Vieira hooked into the middle and the Argentine produced a spectacular volley on the turn that smacked the inside of the post and went out for a goal kick at the other side.

Roma crept in front six minutes before the break when Totti stole in behind his ex-team-mate Chivu and stabbed Vucinic's cross past Julio Cesar.

Mancini made all three changes early in the second half, bringing on Suazo, Balotelli and Pelé for Stankovic, Cambiasso and Figo.

But Inter were dealt a second blow when Maxwell suffered a twisted ankle, forcing the Nerazzurri to play the remaining 23 minutes with ten men.

With the man advantage Roma produced numerous chances to build on their lead, going closest when substitute Aquilani was denied by Julio Cesar's feet after being played in Perrotta.

Numerical parity was restored with six minutes left to tick when Philippe Mexes was dismissed for a second yellow.

The balance swung immediately in Inter's favour. Doni made a reflex save from Crespo before Zanetti grabbed a deserved leveller, crashing his shot into the bottom left corner after pouncing on Juan's headed clearance.
