Disciplinary info

Werder Bremen
Cautioned: Bouman, Frings.
Disqualified: Diego.

Inter
Cautioned: -
Disqualified: -

Werder: one clean sheet in last 14 UCL games

Werder Bremen have kept just one clean sheet in their last 14 Champions League games (the goalless draw with Anorthosis in MD1 on 16 September). In the other 13 matches the Germans have let in a total of 26 goals.

Werder: no home goal in Europe for 212 minutes

Inter's Matchday 6 opponents haven't scored in a European home game since Diego's 58th-minute goal in a 1-0 UEFA Cup victory over Rangers on 13 March 2008. That was 212 competitive minutes ago (remaining 32 minutes against the Scots plus entire 90 minutes of 0-0 draw with Anorthosis and 3-0 defeat to Panathinaikos).

Adriano & Cruz: first & third all-time scorers in Champions League/European Cup

With his goal against Anorthosis in MD3, Adriano confirmed his status as Inter's all-time top scorer in the Champions League/European Cup. With 18 goals to his name, the Brazilian is two ahead of Sandro Mazzola. Julio Cruz is in third place with 13 goals.

Inter's invincibility on the road

Inter haven't let in a goal away from home since their 3-3 draw with Anorthosis on 4 November. The Nerazzurri's away invincibility stands at 220 competitive minutes (remaining 40 minutes of Anorthosis after Frousos' 40th-minute goal, 90 minutes of Palermo 0-2 Inter and 90 minutes of Lazio 0-3 Inter).

The ref: Pieter Vink

Vink, born in Noordwijkerhout on 13 March 1967, referees Inter for the first time, but he has already refereed an Italian team this season, having taken charge of Real Madrid-Juventus. Last season he refereed Porto's match against Besiktas in Istanbul, in which Inter's Ricardo Quaresma scored a 92nd-minute goal. An ex-policeman, the 41-year-old Dutch official had the honour of taking charge of the first match at the new Wembley Stadium, between England U21 and Italy U21 in 2007. In the same year he came on for injured referee Eric Braamhaar in the first leg of the UEFA Cup semi-final between Osasuna and Sevilla, before being including in UEFA's group of élite referees. In December 2007 it was announced that Vink would head the Dutch team of officials selected for Euro 2008. He took charge of the match between hosts Austria and Croatia, and Spain's 2-1 victory over Sweden, in which Zlatan Ibrahimovic (who played 45 minutes) scored an equaliser for his team.

BREMEN - Werder Bremen sent Inter to their second consecutive Champions League defeat and booked their place in the first knockout round of the UEFA Cup, while the Nerazzurri qualify for the Champions League sixteen as runners-up in Group B after Panathinaikos beat Anorthosis in Athens.

Claudio Pizarro opened the scoring after half time, with Markus Rosenberg adding a second for the Germans before Zlatan Ibrahimovic reduced the gap in the closing minutes.

José Mourinho made sweeping changes to the side that beat Lazio at the weekend, opting for 4-3-3 with Quaresma and Mancini flanking Adriano in attack for Matchday 6 at the Weser Stadion. Zanetti started in midfield alongside Cambiasso and Muntari to equal Giuseppe Bergomi's club record of 117 European appearances, while Materazzi and Burdisso returned in defence.

Spurred on by a full house, Werder took the game to Inter but produced few clear-cut chances on goal in the opening forty-five, with Julio Cesar largely untroubled before his parry from Pizarro's flicked header on the stroke of half time.

Schaaf's side continued to dominate after the restart and Julio Cesar found himself busier, parrying a bullet shot from Pizarro before the Peruvian tucked home from Özil's cross in the 63rd minute.

Burdisso had a header cleared off the line by Fritz as the Nerazzurri tried to react, but Werder came pouring forward in search of a second and Julio Cesar kept out efforts from Özil, Franjes and Pizarro before Hunt missed the target by a matter of inches with a precise low finish.

Inter had a further chance through substitute Balotelli, who rose at the back post to head over Quaresma's cross, but the unrelentless Germans weren't finished and Özil was again the creator for their second, crossing low for Rosenberg to slide in off Julio Cesar's outstretched right hand.

Ibrahimovic, on for Adriano at the start of the second period, snatched a late lifeline for Inter with a splendid 20-yard curling shot from Maxwell's short pass.

The hosts could have added a third in stoppage time but Julio Cesar denied substitute Jensen with a diving save.
