Mourinho v Atzori

The current Inter and Catania coaches meet in a competitive fixture for the first time.

Mourinho v Catania

José Mourinho has won both of his previous encounters with Sicilian outfit Catania, with wins at home and away in last season's Serie A championship.

Details:
2008/09 Serie A Inter-Catania 2-1 2-0

Atzori v Inter

Gianluca Atzori faces the Nerazzurri for the first time in his coaching career.

Zanetti to join Facchetti in second place on all-time list of league apps for Inter

Club captain Javier Zanetti's 475 appearances rank him third in the all-time list of Serie A appearances for Inter. By appearing against Catania the Argentine will climb to joint second place alongside ex-captain and president Giacinto Facchetti, who ended his playing career on 476 league appearances for the Nerazzurri.

Maicon set for 100th match in Serie A

Brazilian full-back Douglas Sisenando Maicon will complete a century of appearances in Italy's top flight if he features for Inter against Catania. He made the first of his 99 Serie A appearances - all with Inter - in a 3-2 victory over Fiorentina on 9 September 2006.

Inter scorers into double figures

After last weekend's 5-0 victory over Genoa, 10 different Inter players have hit the target in Serie A games this season - more than any other team. In alphabetical order, they are: Balotelli, Cambiasso, Eto’o, Lucio, Maicon, Milito, Motta, Sneijder, Stankovic and Vieira.

Inter unbeaten in last 26 home league matches; one goalless game in last 80

Inter have avoided defeat in their last 26 Serie A games at home, collecting 19 victories and 7 draws since their 2-1 reverse against Juventus on 22 March 2008. Goals are guaranteed in league matches at the Meazza with the Nerazzurri failing to score in just one of their last 80 - a 0-0 draw with Genoa on 26 October 2008. They have scored 175 goals in the other 79 matches.

Ton up for Potenza

Inter academy product Alessandro Potenza will celebrate 100 appearances as a professional if he plays against the Nerazzurri in Week 9. The Italian defender, who made his professional debut for Inter in their 1-0 Coppa Italia defeat at Bari on 5 December 2002, has played 91 times in Serie A, 5 in Coppa Italia and 3 in European competitions. Besides Inter, he has played professional football for Ancona, Parma, ChievoVerona, Fiorentina, Genoa and Catania.

One Catania win from last 37 away games

The Rossoblu have won only once in their last 37 away matches (a 4-0 Serie A victory at Sicilian rivals Palermo on 1 March 2009), drawing 10 and losing 26 of the other 36.

Catania's goal drought

With back-to-back goalless draws at Atalanta and Bari, Catania haven't scored or conceded in their last two away matches. Mascara was his team's last scorer with a penalty in the 34th minute of Udinese 4-2 Catania in Serie A Week 3. Di Natale was the last player to score against Catania in the 79th minute of the same match.

MILAN - The goals came from midfielders as Inter followed up last weekend's 5-0 win at Genoa with a 2-0 home victory over Catania.

It was plain sailing at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with Sulley Muntari grabbing a quick opener to become the eleventh different Inter player to score in Serie A this season, and Wesley Sneijder doubling up just past the half hour.

Catania sub Mascara reduced the gap from the penalty spot seven minutes from time.

Mourinho made three changes to the side that held Dynamo Kiev in midweek. Balotelli partnered Eto'o up front after sitting out the Champions League clash through suspension as Inter went from 4-3-2-1 to 4-3-1-2.

Cordoba came in for Samuel in defence and Vieira slotted into a holding midfield role, with Sneijder at the tip of the diamond midfield and Muntari and Zanetti (who joined club legend Giacinto Facchetti in second place on the all-time list of Serie A appearances for Inter) on the wings.

The early goal came on 13 minutes. Muntari floated in a deep cross from the left and Eto'o tired to divert it home with an outstretched leg but there was no need as the ball bounced on its way past Campagnolo.

Catania striker Morimoto was a solitary figure up front in the first half as his team-mates struggled to provide decent service, and the Rossazzurri found themselves limited to long-range efforts, the best of which fell to Carboni who forced a difficult save from Julio Cesar.

The Nerazzurri should have been two-nil up in the 28th minute when Vieira's saw his crisp half volley from close range bounce back off the bar, but Sneijder added the second three minutes later to put Inter in total control, scoring from a trademark curling free kick that found the top left corner.

Catania boss Atzori made two changes at the break, bringing on Ledesma and Mascara for Izco and Biagianti. But Inter's domination continued and Eto'o came close after Campaganolo's punched clearance from Sneijder's free kick, his header from the edge of the box floating on to the roof of the net.

Inter had a further chance when Maicon's 20-yard shot soared just over after Balotelli's header from Sneijder's corner was fisted clear by the Catania custodian.

The Rossazzurri were handed a lifeline with time running out when Mascara slotted home from the spot after Julio Cesar's foul on Plasmati, but it was Inter who went closest to a late goal when Balotelli sent a brilliant curling free kick just wide of the post.
