MILAN - Walter Samuel scored the goal that saw the Nerazzurri return to winning ways, three minutes into the second half. The Argentine planted his header into the roof of the net from Hernanes' corner.

Mazzarri picked a back three of Rolando, Samuel and Juan Jesus in front of Handanovic against Sassuolo. Jonathan, Guarin, Kuzmanovic, Hernanes and Nagatomo made up the midfield, with Milito joining Palacio in attack. Hernanes tried to delight the San Siro crowd on his debut, just missing out with a curling right-footed shot. All eyes were on him as he tried to win over the Nerazzurri fans, who already seemed smitten with the Brazilian.

Inter appealed for a penalty on the half-hour mark as Samuel appeared to be held from Hernanes' corner. Handanovic was excellent as ever, saving from a beautiful Berardi free-kick. Despite plenty of creativity and attacking intent, the sides went into the interval with the score goalless.

Inter took the lead immediately after the break: the second period was just three minutes old when Samuel connected with Hernanes' corner to head home his first goal of the season. The Prophet might have found the net himself later in the second half, but Pegolo denied him a debut goal. The Wall's strike proved enough though as Inter saw off Sassuolo 1-0 and recorded their first win of 2014.
