MILAN - Before commenting on Inter's victory over Empoli, Giacinto Facchetti recounted his telephone conversation with Adriano, who after his brain scan at Milan's Nigaurda hospital reassured the Nerazzurri president about his condition. "I spoke with Adri and he was already serene and calm," Facchetti said. We're all calm after what our doctors told us. The lad will have another scan in a few hours, but the worst is past."

On Inter's 2005, Facchetti remarked: "It has been a very good year. We have collected a total of 86 points in the championship, seven less than Juventus and five more than Milan. In 2006 we'll have to get more than the Bianconeri so we can hope. We won the Coppa Italia and the Super Cup, and let's hope these are just the first of a long series of trophies. Besides the good results in our recent matches we have also done well in terms of our game. The fans are enjoying it because we're playing well, we have a great squad with great technical qualities and this helps us.

"The most important thing is that we have found that continuity of performance that we lacked at times in the past. With this continuity we can look to the future with greater confidence and hope we can catch up the team in front of us."

Replying to a transfer market question, Facchetti said: "Martins will have to be available to the Nigerian FA fourteen days before the start of the African Cup of Nations, so he will probably have to leave by 6 January. I don't know if he will be able to play against Siena on January 2006, but this is very unlikely. However, I don't think we need to buy players to reinforce this squad, which is already very strong and complete. This evening, for example, Cruz came on and you all saw what he was capable of doing. We had a certain Alvaro Recoba on the bench and we have some promising youngsters in the youth sector, like Matteo Momentè. I remember when everyone came to know Martins when he played against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League because there were no other strikers available."

President Facchetti concluded with a message of season's greetings for the fans. "I wish all Nerazzurri fans a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year, and I hope 2006 brings us much success."
