MILAN - José Mourinho's Inter will face Portuguese outfit Benfica on 15 August as part of their preparations for the new season. The match will take place at the Estadio Da Luz in Lisbon.
The winners of the pre-season fixture in Portugal will lift the first Eusebio Cup, a tribute to the legendary Eusebio da Silva Ferreira.
Known as the Black Panther, Eusebio was in the Benfica side that lost to Inter in the 1964/65 European Cup final. Jair scored in the final in Milan on 27 May 1965 to give Inter their second consecutive triumph in the competition.
Eusebio, who could have joined Angelo Moratti's Inter in 1966 (but there was a ban on foreign players in Italian football after the national team's defeat to North Korea at the 1966 World Cup) was a guest of Inter last 8 March, on the occasion of the club's Centenary celebrations at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
The friendly against Inter will be Benfica's second of the pre-season following their match against Feyenoord. For Inter the Eusebio Cup clash will be their fourth overseas outing of the pre-season after the Franz Beckenbauer Cup/12th Pirelli Cup match against Bayern Munich (Allianz Arena on 5 August) and the LG Amsterdam Tournament games against Seville and Ajax (Amsterdam ArenA on 8/9 August).
