Inter triumph at AIC 2010 'Football Oscars'

Nerazzurri named Team of the Year; Julio Cesar, Maicon, Diego Milito and Walter Samuel all pick up awards

MILAN - It was a resounding Nerazzurri success at the Oscar del Calcio AIC 2010 awards ceremony held at the Auditorium di Milano on Monday evening. The Italian 'Football Oscars' are assigned to the best players, coach, referee and team of Serie A each year. As per tradition, there were eight main categories in the 14th edition of the event, which awarded the top performers of the 2009/10 season. The nominations for each category were compiled based on votes made by the footballers themselves last summer during the close season. Julio Cesar, Maicon, Diego Milito and Walter Samuel all won awards, while Inter was elected Team of the Year and Josè Mourinho was recognised for his achievements in 2010 with the Nerazzurri.

Here is a complete list of the awards:

- Best Italian Player: from a short list of Antonio Cassano, Antonio Di Natale and Andrea Pirlo, the winner was Antonio Di Natale

- Best Foreign Player: from a short list of Samuel Eto'o, Diego Milito and Wesley Sneijder, the winner was Diego Milito

- Best Young Player: from a short list of Mario Balotelli, Alexandre Pato and Javier Pastore, the winner was Javier Pastore

- Best Defender: from a short list of Giorgio Chiellini, Walter Samuel and Thiago Silva, joint winners were Walter Samuel and Giorgio Chiellini

- Best Coach: from a short list of Massimiliano Allegri, Luigi Del Neri and Josè Mourinho, the winner was Josè Mourinho. In his absence, Beppe Baresi, Daniele Bernazzani and Stefano Rapetti - members of the Portuguese coach's backroom staff last year - collected the award on his behalf

- Best Referee: from a short list of Emidio Morganti, Nicola Rizzoli and Paolo Tagliavento, the winner was Emidio Morganti

- Player of the Year: chosen from the winners of the Best Italian Player and Best Foreign Player categories, the winner was Diego Milito
