NAPLES - Speaking just minutes before the start of Napoli vs. Inter, the Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio had this to say to Premium Sport: "Inter must always give their all during matches. Spalletti said the right things during his press conference. During the past few months I've spent with him, I've been struck by his desire to encourage all of us to improve, even off the pitch. He encourages all of us to do better. The players can understand this thanks to the charisma he transmits to everyone."
As for the club's aims during the upcoming winter transfer window, Ausilio said: "I went to go and watch two matches in England. We're looking ahead but for now I prefer to focus on the players that we currently have within our team. We will assess things further in January. We want to remain at the top, where these players have taken us so far thanks to their ability. We will not give up. Today will be a really difficult match, but we'll seek to assert ourselves against one of the strongest teams in Italy."
Responding to questions about Cancelo and Dalbert, the sporting director had this to say: "They are different situations. Cancelo needs to train after his injury, improving his match fitness. Dalbert is still learning Italian football, focusing on the details of defence just as much as attack. He is doing really well and has a strong desire to learn. We must also not forget about Santon, who Spalletti is particularly fond of."
Icardi was previously a player who Napoli were interested in. “There were never any negotiations, Napoli liked him like a lot of teams did. At that time, we moved to renew his contract and there was no real chance that he’d leave Inter. He’s our captain and he’s very attached to this shirt.”
Finally, there was a joke about Insigne who tried out for Inter as a boy. “If he showed up for a trial today, I’d certainly take him...”
