The numbers of an extraordinary Scudetto

Inter and its fans are experiencing a magical and extraordinary week. Since the final whistle of the derby against Milan, the Nerazzurri are officially Champions of Italy. The journey to the 20th Scudetto in the club's history, earning Inter the Second Star, has come to an end. A wonderful journey, full of victories and record-breaking numbers. A journey that we want to revisit.

AN HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENT

Inter are the first team to clinch the Scudetto in a city derby in the history of Serie A with a single round-robin format. The 22 April is a lucky day for the Nerazzurri. Back in 2007, Inter also won the championship on the same day, defeating Siena 1-2 with a brace from Materazzi. In that season too, Inter won the Scudetto with five rounds to spare. Inter is the first team in Serie A history to achieve this feat on two separate occasions. Overall, it's only the sixth time that the Italian championship has been decided with five games still to play.

TOP OF EUROPE IN NUMBERS

Inter lead with the most points (86) and victories (27), while also conceding the fewest goals (18) and boasting the best goal difference (+61) across Europe's top five leagues in the 2023/24 season.

The 2023/24 Inter team recorded one of the top 10 performances for goal difference by a team in a single Serie A season in history, currently at +61, with the Nerazzurri having achieved better only in 1950/51 (+64).

During this season, Inter became the first team ever to score at least one goal in each of the first 31 matches of the campaign, a streak that has now reached 33. Additionally, the Nerazzurri scored in 41 consecutive Serie A matches, setting a new record in Inter's history.

For the fourth time in their history, Inter amassed at least 86 points in Serie A.

Inter recorded its best points-per-game average in a single second half of the season in Serie A history (2.71, with 38 points in 14 matches). Only Juventus in 2015/16 (2.74) had performed better in the latter part of a, three-points for a win, top-flight campaign, while the Nerazzurri were neck and neck with Milan in 1961/62 (2.71).

THE STELLAR BOSS: SIMONE INZAGHI

Simone Inzaghi became the twelfth coach in the history of Inter to win Serie A. The Nerazzurri coach climbs to third place in the table of most successful coaches of Inter.

Simone Inzaghi is second amongst the coaches, who have been in charge for at least 50 games, with the highest points-per-game average in Inter's Serie A history, with an average of 2.22 points per game.

AN UNMISTAKABLE STYLE OF PLAY

Inter are the team that have conceded the fewest goals (18) and collected the most clean sheets (19) in the top five European leagues during 2023/24. Only in 1988/89, did the Nerazzurri keep more in a Serie A season (20). Inter are also the only team to have not conceded in the first fifteen minutes of play from any of the top five European leagues.

Inter are also one of only three teams to remain unbeaten away from home in the top five European leagues, along with Bayer Leverkusen and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Nerazzurri are also highly effective in their build-up play. Inter are the team with the highest percentage of successful passes in this season's Serie A (87.4%). Furthermore, the Italian Champions have scored 9 goals following sequences of play involving at least 10 passes in Serie A. No other team has performed better than Inter.

CAPITANO E GOALSCORER: LAUTARO MARTINEZ

Lautaro Martínez is the third Inter player to have scored at least 20 goals for three consecutive seasons in Serie A, after Giuseppe Meazza (five - from 1929/30 to 1933/34) and Stefano Nyers (four - from 1948/49 to 1951/52).

Lautaro Martínez is only one of five players to have scored more than 20 goals in three consecutive Serie A seasons in the last 65 years, alongside Gabriel Batistuta, Antonio Di Natale (four), Edinson Cavani, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lautaro Martínez is one of five players to have scored at least 23 goals in the top five European leagues in 2023/24, alongside Harry Kane (33), Kylian Mbappé (26), Serhou Guirassy (25), and Lois Openda (23).

THE PROTAGONISTS

In addition to Lautaro, two other players have surpassed the 10-goal mark in this Serie A, Marcus Thuram, with 12 goals, and Hakan Çalhanoglu, with 11. The last time that happened was 2004/05 with Adriano (16), Christian Vieri (13), and Obafemi Martins (11). Tikus is the second Inter player to have scored more than 10 goals and provided more than five assists in his first Serie A season with the Nerazzurri, after Samuel Eto'o (12+6 in 2009/10). Çalhanoglu is only the second midfielder of Inter to score at least 11 goals in a Serie A season in the era of three points for a win, after Ivan Perisic. The last midfielder to score more goals with the Nerazzurri in a single season was Lothar Matthäus, who reached 16 in 1990/91. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the only Nerazzurri player who has been ever present in Serie A this season. The Armenian has been involved in nine goals (two goals and seven assists) Davide Frattesi is the midfielder who has scored the most goals after the 90' this season (three goals, against Milan, Hellas Verona, and Udinese).
