Tenth two-legged tie against French sides

Inter's 2003/04 Uefa Cup quarter-final first leg is their tenth against teams from France. The Nerazzurri have progressed on all nine previous occasions: twice in the European Cup and seven times in the Uefa/Fairs Cup. The opponents knocked out were Lyon, Monaco and Nantes (twice each), and Guingamp, Sochaux and Strasburgo (once).

No goal conceded for three away matches

Inter haven't let in a goal on the road for 270 minutes, since Mancini's 90th-minute strike for the Giallorossi in Roma 4-1 Inter on 7 March. Since then the Nerazzurri have kept clean sheets at Benfica, Ancona and Reggio Calabria.

Nerazzurri unbeaten in Europe for five matches

Inter have notched one victory and four draws since their last European defeat, that 5-1 reverse at home to Arsenal on 25 November 2003. If the Nerazzurri win away to Marseille they will be on their way to equalling the positive series of European results from August 2000 to February 2001 when they won three matches and drew five.

José Anigo factfile

Marseille native José Anigo, born on 15 April 1961, took over from Alain Perrin on 15 January 2004. Prior to replacing Perrin, Anigo was coach of the Marseille B side, and now leads the first team for the second time in his coaching career. He coached O.M. for five matches in 2001 but then left the club after irreconcilable differences with then president Bernard Tapie.

MARSEILLE - The Nerazzurri couldn't find a way past Marseille at the Vélodrome. After keeping the French outfit at bay in the opening period, Didier Drogba stunned Inter two minutes into the second half with the only goal of the game when he took on Cordoba then from close range blasted a left-footed shot past Fontana.

Marseille's 1-0 victory means Inter need to score at least twice at the San Siro next Wednesday to progress to the Uefa Cup last four.

In the meantime, Inter play away to Perugia in Week 29 of the Serie A championship on Easter Day.
