As a coach he has won two Romanian league titles (Dinamo Bucharest, 1989/90; Rapid Bucarest, 1998/99), two Turkish championships (Galatasaray, 2001/02; Besiktas, 2002/03), one Ukrainian Premier League title (Shakhtar, 2004/05), three Romanian cups (Dinamo Bucarest, 1985/86, 1989/90; Rapid Bucarest 1997/98), one Anglo-Italian Cup (Brescia, 1993/94), one Romanian Super Cup (Rapid Bucarest, 1999) and one European Super Cup (Galatasaray, 2000).

Inter: 596 minutes without conceding a goal

Inter haven't let in a goal in competitive matches since last 18 May when Diego Lopez scored in the 64th minute of the Nerazzurri's 3-1 Coppa Italia victory. The Nerazzurri have kept a clean sheet for the remaining 26 minutes of that match plus the 2004/05 Serie A games against Sampdoria and Reggina (180 minutes), the two-legged domestic cup final against Roma (180 minutes), the Champions League qualifying match in Donetsk (90 minutes) and the Italian Super Cup final against Juventus (120 minutes).

Inter & 2-0 advantages from first legs in Europe

Inter defend a 2-0 lead from a continental cup tie first leg for the third time in their history. In the 1963/64 European Cup Inter knocked out Partizan Belgrade with a 2-1 win in the return leg. Giovanni Trapattoni's Nerazzurri were eliminated by Bayern Monaco in the 1988/89 UEFA Cup, losing 3-1 to the Germans at the San Siro.

Adriano chasing Mazzola record

With his goal against Shakhtar in Donetsk a fortnight ago Adriano equalled Jair's tally of 11 goals for Inter in the European Cup/Champions League. The Brazilian striker is now five away from reaching Sandro Mazzola's club record of 16 goals.

Adriano equals Shevchenko & Chiesa

Adriano's goal against Shakhtar in the first leg was his fourth in Champions League qualifying matches. The Brazilian has therefore equalled Enrico Chiesa and Andriy Shevchenko's scoring record for Italian clubs in UCL qualifying.

Shakhtar: no away draw in Europe for a year

Shakhtar Donetsk's last away draw in European cup competitions was on 25 August 2004 when the Ukrainians drew 2-2 at Bruges. Since then Shakhtar have collected a win and four defeats on the road.

MILAN - Inter drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk behind closed doors at the Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday and go through to the UEFA Champions League group stage courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate victory. Alvaro Recoba added to Martins and Adriano's goals in the Ukraine a fortnight ago before Elano pulled one back for Mircea Lucescu's side.

Uruguayan ace Recoba, who partnered Adriano in attack in last year's qualifying victory over Basel in Milan, put Inter 3-0 up on aggregate in the 12th minute, finding the bottom right corner with a low, left-foot shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Shakhtar reduced the deficit on 25 minutes from what was an almost identical move to the one that saw Veron decide Saturday's Italian Super Cup final at the Delle Alpi. Marica raced past Materazzi on the right wing then pulled back for Elano to slot home from eleven yards.

The victory over two legs sees Inter join Serie A rivals Juventus, AC Milan and Udinese in the draw for the group stage of the Champions League, which takes place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco at 16:00CET on Thursday.
