Javier Zanetti poised for 500th Inter match

If he plays against Bayern Munich in Matchday 2, Javier Zanetti will celebrate his 500th appearance for the Nerazzurri. Zanetti, who made his debut in Inter 1-0 Vicenza (Serie A) on 27 August 1995, has played 355 times in Serie A, 43 in Coppa Italia, 96 in European competitions and 5 in other tournaments.

Eighteen-match scoring run

Since the 0-0 home draw with Parma on 12 January 2006, Inter have scored in 18 consecutive matches at the Giuseppe Meazza, netting a total of 40 goals.

No home defeat in two years

Inter's last home defeat in a European cup competition was a 0-1 loss to Olympique Marseille in the UEFA Cup on 14 April 2004. Excluding the 3-0 forfeit loss to AC Milan in 2004/05, the Nerazzurri have since played eleven European matches at the Giuseppe Meazza, winning 9 (5 out of last 5) and drawing 2.

Bayern on target in last 11 Euro matches

Matchday 2 opponents Bayern Munich have netted in each of their last 11 European matches, scoring a total of 21 goals. Bayern last failed to score in a European fixture on 9 March 2005 when they went down 1-0 at Arsenal in the Champions League.

No German win in Italy since 2003

Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 win over AC Milan in the UEFA Cup on 18 March 2003 was the last time a German team won on Italian soil in a European cup competition. Since then there have been 8 Italian wins and 4 draws.

Match referee: Stephen Bennett

An international referee since 2001, English official Stephen Bennett was born in Farnborough, Kent on 17 January 1961. Bennett has refereed Inter on one previous occasion: a 0-0 home draw with Sochaux which saw the Nerazzurri qualify for 2003/04 UEFA Cup round of sixteen after a 2-2 draw in France. He has taken charge of three other matches involving clubs from Italy (1 draw and 2 Italian defeats), and officiated in one Bayern Munich match: a 1-0 home win over Maccabi Haifa in the 2004/05 Champions League.

MILAN - Inter are without a point after two Champions League Group B matches as Pizarro and Podolski scored late goals to give Bayern Munich a 2-0 victory in Matchday 2 at the San Siro. The Nerazzurri ended the game with nine men after the second-half dismissals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fabio Grosso.

The Germans kept Inter busy in the opening half with a crossfield passing game which produced little in terms of attempts on goal.

Inter's best chance of the first period fell to Ibrahimovic, who cut inside an opponent on the left channel to create a yard of space and crashed a low right-foot shot just wide of the target.

The Nerazzurri were reduced to ten men 13 minutes after the restart when Ibrahimovic was sent marching for a second yellow.

Mancini's men rallied and went close through Crespo who received from Zanetti in the Bayern box and fired on target but Kahn narrowed the angle to make a vital save.

At the other end Scholl's glancing header from Schweinsteiger's corner finished just wide of the back post.

Bayern broke the deadlock with nine minutes remaining when Peruvian forward Claudio Pizarro met a cross into the box and beat Julio Cesar with a close-range shot that took a lucky bounce before ending up in the back of the net.

To add insult to injury Fabio Grosso was harshly shown a straight red card for elbowing Sagnol in the final minutes before Bayern substitute Podolski wrapped up victory in stoppage time, firing into an open goal after turning Julio Cesar in the area.
