No Inter draw in Europe since Feb

Inter's last Champions League stalemate was a 2-2 away draw with Ajax on 22 February 2006. Since that date the Nerazzurri have won 4 and lost 3. Inter's last home European draw was also seven games ago: Inter 1-1 Shakhtar Donetsk in Champions League qualifying on 24 August 2005. Since then, Mancini's team have collected 6 wins and a defeat from their last seven European fixtures at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Cruz, Crespo & UCL goals for Inter

Injured Argentine striker Julio Cruz has scored 10 Champions League goals for Inter to reach Obafemi Martins in fourth place in the all-time list of Nerazzurri scorers in the competition. El Jardinero is a goal away from the top three of Jair (11 goals), Adriano (16) and Sandro Mazzola (16). Hernan Crespo is sixth with 9 Champions League goals in black and blue.

Zanetti poised for 100th Inter match in Europe

If he plays against Sporting Lisbon in Matchday 5, Javier Zanetti will complete a century of European appearances for the Nerazzurri. The Inter captain, whose first European match for Inter was the UEFA Cup 1-1 draw at Lugano on 12 September 1995, has played 56 times in the Champions League and 43 in the UEFA Cup.

No Portuguese win in Italy since 1997

Benfica's 1-0 Cup Winners' Cup victory over Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi on 20 March 1997 was the last time a Portuguese team won on Italian soil. Since then Italian sides have hosted Portuguese clubs on 15 occasions, winning 13 and drawing 2.

A win to see Inter through

If they beat Sporting Lisbon at the Meazza, Inter will automatically qualify for the knock-out stage of the 2006/07 Champions League, whatever the result in Wednesday's other Group B match between Spartak Moscow and Bayern Munich in Russia. A draw or an Inter defeat will see qualification decided in the final matchday. If Sporting lose to Inter the Portuguese outfit will exit the competition, while a Sporting win or a draw will keep the race open.
If the two teams have the same number of points after Matchday 6, the following criteria will be decisive for qualification to the last sixteen:
1. Higher number of points obtained in the matches between the teams in question
2. Superior goal difference from the matches between the teams in question
3. Higher number of goals scored away from home in the matches between the teams in question
4. Superior goal difference from all group matches played
5. Higher number of goals scored
6. Coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as its association, over the previous five seasons

No Sporting goal in Europe for 211 minutes

Nani's 59th-minute effort in the 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow was Sporting Lisbon's last Champions League goal. The Portuguese side haven't found the net for 211 competitive minutes: the remaining 31 minutes of that game plus both meetings with Bayern Munich.

Match ref: Frank De Bleeckere

Born in Belgium on 1 July 1966, Frank De Bleeckere has been an international referee since 1998. In Matchday 5 he referees Inter for the third time in the Champions League. Both of the previous fixtures were home games: Inter 3-0 Rosenborg in 2002/03 and Inter 1-1 Lokomotiv Moscow in 2003/04. Including those two matches with Inter, De Bleeckere has taken charge of 10 European fixtures involving Italian teams. There have been 4 Italian wins, 4 draws and 2 defeats.

MILAN - Hernan Crespo produced another clinical finish as the Nerazzurri defeated Sporting Lisbon 1-0 at the Meazza to book their place in the Champions League knockout stage.

The Argentine forward, whose splendid volley against Reggina on Sunday put Inter on top of the league table, came up with the goods again against the Portuguese outfit, smashing his 10th Champions League goal for Inter past Ricardo from 12 yards on 36 minutes after latching on to a Stankovic through ball.

Inter looked to have made the perfect start when Crespo struck home from close range after a bit of magic from Ibrahimovic in the second minute, only for the offside flag to go up.

Sporting were forced to make two first-half changes, with Abel making way for Miguel Veloso just twelve minutes after coming on for Caneira.

Inter had two clear-cut chances for a second goal after the restart. And both fell to Crespo. On 74 minutes the Argentine just failed to make contact with a Grosso cross after a flowing passing move by the Nerazzurri.

Crespo then forced a point-blank save from Ricardo with a bullet shot from Vieira's floated pass, just minutes after Esteban Cambiasso replaced Grosso to make his return to competitive action for the Nerazzurri ahead of Sunday's top-of-the-table showdown with Palermo at the Barbera.

Wednesday's early Group B Matchday 5 clash between Spartak Moscow and Bayern Munich in Russia ended in a 2-2 draw.
