Viola through two times out of three after 1-0 defeat in first leg

Fiorentina go into a Coppa Italia return leg after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg for the fourth time in their history. The Viola have gone on to qualify for the next round on two occasions: in the 1984/85 quarter-finals they beat Parma 3-0 at the Franchi, winning 2-0 at home to Perugia in the round of 16 in 1999/00. In 2004/05 Fiorentina beat Roma 1-0 at home in the return leg of their quarter-final clash with Roma but lost 7-6 on penalties.

The Nerazzurri drew 1-1 in Turin after a 1-0 win in Milan to lift their third Coppa Italia. Inter qualified for the successive round in 1991/92 (2-2 against Casertana in Naples), twice in 1998/99 (0-0 away to Cesena, 1-1 away to Castel di Sangro), and in 2005/06 (2-2 away to Udinese). FLORENCE - Samuel Eto'o scored his 15th of the season as Inter beat Fiorentina 1-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi to complete a 2-0 aggregate semi-final victory and qualify for a fifth Coppa Italia final in six seasons.

José Mourinho's men will face Roma or Udinese, who play their return leg next week, in the competition's showpiece match at the Stadio Olimpico on 5 May.

In the second meeting between the two teams in four days after Saturday's 2-2 Serie A draw, Fiorentina had the lion's share of the first-half chances but the Inter defence and Julio Cesar let nothing through.

The Viola's first-half efforts were cancelled out in one fell swoop in the 57th minute. Eto'o controlled Thiago Motta's perfectly-weighted through ball with his right foot and beat Frey with his left to leave the hosts needing three goals.
