First head-to-head between Neftchi and Inter

Neftchi PFK Baku and Inter have never met in official tournaments before. Neftchi are facing an Italian team for the first time.

Inter's maiden voyage into Azerbaijan

This is the Nerazzurri's first trip to Azerbaijan for a competitive match, and their first ever competitive game against an Azerbaijani side.

Inter's 450-minute shutout on the road

Inter haven't conceded a single away goal this season. The last time the Nerazzurri let one in away from the Meazza was on 13 May, when they lost 3-1 to Lazio on the final day of the 2011/12 campaign, Mauri netting the third in the 90th minute. Since then, Inter have notched up five unblemished away wins on the trot: 0-3 and 0-2 against Hajduk Split and Vaslui respectively in the Europa League, plus Serie A victories over Pescara (0-3), Torino (0-2) and ChievoVerona (0-2). A clean sheet lasting 450 minutes in total.

Neftchi unbeaten at home in European ties this century

Neftchi were last beaten on home territory in a European fixture on 12 August 1999, when Red Star Belgrade left the Toriq Bahramov Stadium with a 2-3 win. Since the turn of the century the Azerbaijani have gone 14 games undefeated in Baku (10 of which without conceding): 9 wins and 5 draws.

Dutchman Blom to officiate: first time with both sides

Bernie Raymond Blom, born in Gouda (Netherlands) on 21 February 1974, has been an international referee since 2005. He is officiating his fourth European match of the season and has never met Inter or Neftchi in competitive fixtures before.

BAKU – Now Andrea Stramaccioni's Inter really can think about the derby. They left the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium after a crushing display of superiority with a 3-1 victory over Neftchi in Matchday 2 of the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League.

The first half was all Inter and Guarin, looking more like a winger tonight, was at the heart of the first two goals. Ten minutes were on the clock when the Colombian drifted in from the right and played a neat pass for Coutinho, who turned the ball past Stamenkovic with a crafty backheeled flick. Guarin then provided more of the same for Obi to score with an easy finish on the half-hour mark. Inter's third came in the 42nd minute with a bit of help from Bertucci, the defender wrongfooting his own keeper with a deflected intervention that enabled Livaja to nod home. Canales pulled one back shortly after the restart but the hosts didn't have enough to trouble the Nerazzurri further.

Inter scored their 500th and 501st goals in European competitions this evening and the win takes them to the top of Group H alongside Rubin Kazan on four points. The next Europa League appointment is in three weeks' time when Partizan Belgrade visit the Meazza.
