MILAN- It was the meeting between the two top scorers in Serie A with Icardi for the Nerazzurri and Immobile for the Biancocelesti. Inter started in a lively fashion with Cancelo and Perisic getting up the flanks but the decisive touch to find the net in the middle wasn’t there. After 18 minutes, Candreva looked to redirect a Santon cross and then a minute later, Handanovic saved a great Milinkovic-Savic effort from distance. In the 29th minute, Icardi played a good long ball out to the left where Borja Valero picked out Perisic in the middle. Strakosha responded to his effort with a great save to keep it goalless. Lazio were pushing put Inter looked to break in a composed way. At the end of the first half, Borja Valero directed a Luis Alberto corner onto his own bar and the whistle went after that moment which had hearts in mouths for the 60,000 fans at the Stadio Meazza.

The second half started with the sides unchanged. Twelve minutes in, Borja Valero found space on the age of the box and Strakosha did very well to tip the Spanish midfielder’s shot wide. In the 61st minute, Rocchi awarded a penalty for a handball by Skriniar. However, VAR then correctly overturned the decision as the Slovakian defender could not avoid it as the ball rebounded into him from close range. Lazio improved and in the 73rd minute the substitute Felipe Anderson forced a miraculous save from Handanovic to keep it goalless. Soon after, Immobile picked out the Lazio number 10 in the middle of the area but he fired wide. Inter responded with Icardi who missed a chance to score under pressure. That was it and 2017 finished with Inter unbeaten in direct match-ups against the top sides. The action will restart on 5th January against Fiorentina at the Stadio Franchi.
