PADUA - Inter have won the Italian Youth Championship, beating Atalanta 2-1 at Padua's Euganeo stadium under the watchful eyes of the greater part of the nerazzurri management.
Inter took the lead after just 15 minutes, Pandev finishing off a 40-metre run with a precise strike to beat Atalanta keeper Brignoli.
Atalanta then stepped up their game, forcing Inter keeper Cordaz to work overtime in the early stages of the second half. As their opponents applied more and more pressure, going close to an equaliser in the 69th minute with Bianchi's header, Inter looked dangerous on the break and went 2-0 up through Martins a minute later. The Nigerian striker showed his class in an irresistible move that saw him take on one defender before producing an angled shot to beat Brignoli.
The side from Bergamo came back and in the 75th minute got their reward. Breviario's shot took a deflection off an Inter defender that Cordaz could do nothing about. 2-1.
Inter survived a final onslaught of Atalanta pressure when after four minutes of injury time referee Orsato blew the final whistle. The nerazzurri youth team have deservedly won the championship, the icing on the cake after an extraordinary season.
