Mourinho: "When the going gets tough..."

"We're top of the table and I'm proud of this. What can the other teams say?"

APPIANO GENTILE - During today's Tim Cup press conference José Mourinho reflected on his team's performance against Atalanta.

"It's obvious that after a match like this you have to talk about what happened and find the reasons why you didn't play well. After that there are more specific situations, face to face discussions between the coach and the players, and my message is always direct, like it was yesterday."

Mourinho is not underestimating the situation, but he is satisfied with having a team that is top of the table, through to the last sixteen of the Champions League, in the quarter-finals of the Tim Cup and with a trophy already in the cabinet: the Italian Super Cup. "With all this, I'm proud to be in a difficult moment," he said. "Not many can say the same."

The Inter coach said he has no criticism for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who will miss Sunday evening's clash against Sampdoria after his booking at the end of the first half in Bergamo. "It is acceptable for a player who doesn't like losing, who has victory in his blood, to use harsh words against the referee when you're 3-0 down.

"As coach, I have to apologise to all those who were in Bergamo on Sunday for the negative contribution we gave to their happiness, and I apologise to all the other Inter fans. But the team needs the fans' support."

Starting from tomorrow night's visit of Roma.

"If we win I will be the first to leave the pitch. If we lose, I will be the last. I'm no masochist, but the difficult moments don't scare me."
