MILAN - The Inter Campus programme in Israel and Palestine has finally reopened following its closure in 2000 for security reasons.
Through the Peres Centre for Peace in Israel and the Al-Quds Association for Dialogue and Democracy in Palestine, the Israeli municipalities of Sderot and Kiryat Gat and the Palestinian municipality of Jericho are involved in the new programme. Officials are working to reinvolve Nablus, another location in Palestine.
Each centre sees the participation of 25 children and 2 coaches/educators, but the programme is destined to involve more children in all four of the above-mentioned locations.
A delegation from Inter will pay two annual visits to the territory to hold training courses, with a view to staging future sessions uniting the centres in Israel and Palestine.
Despite the presence of the wall and the worsening of the local situation, Inter Campus wanted to go against the trend and use the strength of football in favour of a peace project.
