ABU DHABI - Television stations from all over the world, cameras whirring, flashes going off, and on a red carpet in line with the importance of the award, the Laureus World Sports Awards 2011 have just begun. Luis Figo and Francesco Toldo are representing Inter in Abu Dhabi.
"We are delighted to be taking part in such a prestigious awards ceremony. It's a very important event, following a very important year for Inter. We are among the nominees as best team of the year and I honestly believe that Inter deserve to win this honour. It was an incredible season and one that we are immensely proud of: a season of hard work, sacrifice and success. We are very pleased to be here," said Figo as he was immortalised by camera flashes, surrounded by journalists.
Toldo continued: "Last year was incredible and it has left its mark on history. It's something I appreciate even more now that I'm working at Inter as a club official. Today is a special day: Josè Mourinho deservedly won the Panchina d'Oro and let's hope that Inter can win here too, though there are some worthy contenders: Spain, who won the World Cup... If we do win, we will dedicate the prize to Inter Campus as well. I'm very happy to be working for this great club. The award is something we would really like to win, something we would like to dedicate to the Moratti family, who have always tried to win through fair play."
