PINZOLO - Walter Mazzarri's Inter played their first friendly of the season this afternoon, taking on a Trentino Select XI at Pinzolo's Stadio La Pineta. The game finished 3-0 and, aside from the victory, the side's new tactical approach began to come through after 14 training sessions. All of the goals came after the interval, with Rodrigo Palacio, Alessandro Capello and Ricky Alvarez on the scoresheet. The latter was the star of the show, as he also won two penalties for the Nerazzurri.
FIRST HALF - Inter started well but it was the men from Trentino who produced the first meaningful chance: after three minutes Poli's free-kick was put behind by Handanovic for a corner. Donati rose to meet the resulting set-piece but sent his header just wide. Guarin, found by Nagatomo on 9 minutes, went for goal from just inside the area but his shot was repelled by Rossatti. Shortly after, Jonathan latched onto a nice ball over the top: but the opposition goalkeeper was out very smartly. Midway through the first period Guarin crossed from the right for Palacio but his header was well saved by Rossatti. Palacio then turned provider on 24 minutes, finding Icardi from the left but his effort was straight at the goalkeeper. Inter's best chance came three minutes short of the break: Kuzmanovic's free-kick was met by the head of Cambiasso who saw his effort come back off the post. On the stroke of half time Ranocchia might have broken the deadlock but his header went just wide.
SECOND HALF - The Nerazzurri made seven changes for the second period. Samuel had a goal harshly ruled out on 54 minutes: he got up well to head home from a cross but the referee stopped play for a foul on the goalkeeper. Palacio went on a great run after 58 minutes, before driving into the box from the right. His shot though was straight at the keeper who turned the ball behind for a corner. It was Palacio who finally opened the scoring from the set-piece, heading home on 59 minutes. Alvarez showed great skill just after the hour mark, and was brought down in the area: the referee awarded a penalty but Belfodil's weak effort was pushed away by Travaglia diving to his right. Inter doubled their lead on 68 minutes: two substitutes combined to find the net. Mira played it through to Capello who drove an angled finish past the goalkeeper. The third goal came a quarter of an hour from the end, as Mira bagged a second assist. He played Alvarez in one-on-one with the opposition keeper and the Argentine made no mistake. Alvarez won his second penalty of the match on 76 minutes: sadly it was the same result as earlier in the contest as Belfodil this time hammered his penalty against the post. The Algerian still had time for one more great chance in the last minute, after being well found by Mira. This time he was denied by a sharp piece of work by Travaglia.
