This is what the Primavera boss had to say following his side’s 2-2 draw with Dynamo Kyiv: “We didn’t play as a team during the first half”

SESTO SAN GIOVANNI - Following Inter’s 2-2 draw against Dynamo Kiev in the opening fixture of their UEFA Youth League - Domestic Path first round, the Nerazzurri’s Primavera boss Stefano Vecchi had this to say: “The positive aspect to take from today is regarding our ability to get back in the game and having shown belief,” said Vecchi to the Inter Channel. “In the first half we did not play as a team. We lost our points of reference and it was understandable to then struggle and fall off the pace a bit. You cannot win matches if you don’t play together. As for swapping Schiró, it was not his fault. I could have changed the whole team at that time. I wanted to alter the team’s set-up because we could not create chances in attack and we were struggling in the middle.”

Inter were unfortunate with injuries during the match, with both Vanheusden and Sala being forced off: “Vanheusden has gone for an MRI scan, while Sala has a problem with his teeth and his nose. It is a shame because our best Inter side could’ve have beaten this Dynamo team. They are good going forwards, although we created 10 great chances. We should have done better with our finishing, especially with the players that we have up front.”

Vecchi then insisted that his Nerazzurri side must put in an improved performance during the return leg in Ukraine: “We managed to show pride and get ourselves back into the match. Qualification is still wide open, but we will have to show a different spirit in Kiev. Obviously I expected more from the lads, but this is how the match has gone. This result is fine.”

The coach’s full interview will be broadcast last on the Nerazzurri channel at 19:30 CEST.
