Despite an excellent first half, Sebastian De La Fuente's side succumb to a 5-3 defeat

MILAN – Sebastian De La Fuente’s team put up a good fight in their Round of 16 clash against Milan, but they ultimately fell to a 5-3 defeat. The Nerazzurre were terrific in the first half and managed to come from 2-0 down (Sabatino with a double for Milan) to take the lead thanks to a brace from Marinelli and a goal from Baresi. In the second half, the Rossonere increased the intensity of their play and succeeded in coming back to win 5-3 following goals from Tucceri, Giuliano and Giacinti. Inter, who are currently top of Serie B, will have learnt a lot from today’s match against the Serie A leaders as the Nerazzurre look to continue on the path they’ve taken.

Inter began the match aggressively: in the 4th minute Regazzoli caused problems for Milan’s defence with a shot that went just wide. Just a minute later, the Rossonere took the lead through Sabatino, who made the most of  Schroffenegger’s mistake at the back. It then got worse for the Nerazzurre as Sabatino doubled the away side’s lead following Giuliano’s great assist. But Sebastian De La Fuente’s team didn’t give up and demonstrated maturity to level the game as Marinelli scored twice to make it 2-2. And it got better for Inter as Regina Baresi scored from the penalty spot following a foul on Regazzoli. The Nerazzurre thus went into the break 3-2 ahead after a deserved and fantastic comeback.

Milan, who are more accustomed to playing games at this level, played with more intensity and were more aggressive in the second period as goals from Tucceri, Giuliano and Giacinti saw Carolina Morace’s side come back to secure the win. But Inter can look back on an excellent first half as the team continues to believe in the excellent work being done by Sebastian De La Fuente and all his staff. The path the Nerazzurre have taken is the right one, and they need to continue to work hard to achieve great things in the near future.
