It ends in a stalemate at the Dacia Arena despite the Nerazzurri creating a number of opportunities. Inter now sit on 63 points in third

UDINE – The match between Udinese and Inter on matchday 35 in Serie A TIM ended in a goalless draw. The Nerazzurri created a number of opportunities in a match where they were on top for long periods, but they couldn’t quite manage to break down the Friulani’s rearguard. Following this result, Inter sit in third place in the league on 63 points with just three matches of the season remaining.

Inter immediately took control of proceedings when the match kicked off. The first real chance of the game came to Radja Nainggolan after 14 minutes: the Belgian midfielder’s powerful long-range effort was put behind for a corner by Musso. The Nerazzurri came close again eight minutes later: D’Ambrosio got on the end of Perisic’s free kick into the box, but the ball ended up going out of play after taking a nick off Lautaro. Udinese ventured into Inter’s half on the half-hour mark and won a free kick on the edge of the box through Pussetto. De Paul stepped up to take it but was denied by Inter’s wall. At the end of the first half, the hosts began to come forward more: in the 38th minute they broke quickly through De Paul, who threaded a pass through to Mandragora, but the latter’s effort was comfortably saved by Handanovic. It was then the Nerazzurri’s turn to attack: Brozovic let fly from distance, with the ball sailing just wide of the post. The first half thus ended with the score at 0-0.

The second half kicked off with the same 22 players on the pitch who had started the match. Inter came close straight away through Lautaro, whose shot was pushed away by Musso. The game remained in the balance, but it was the Nerazzurri who were having the better opportunities: in the 56th minute, Perisic got on the end of D’Ambrosio’s cross but couldn’t keep his header down. Moments later De Maio did well to get to the ball before Lautaro following Perisic’s ball across the box. Spalletti then decided to shake things up: Icardi came on for Borja Valero after 63 minutes. Spalletti’s men continued to come forward: not long after the Nerazzurri’s first substitution of the match, Musso stuck out a leg to deny Inter after De Vrij had flicked on Nainggolan’s strike. In the 72nd minute, Icardi couldn’t quite reach Perisic’s cross before Zeegelaar managed to get in front of Lautaro to clear the ball. Four minutes later, Musso managed to hold on to D'Ambrosio’s low ball into the area. Spalletti then threw Candreva and Keita into the mix in place of Politano and Lautaro. In the 85th minute, Skriniar headed over following Candreva’s corner, while there was another chance for Inter immediately afterwards: Musso pulled off a point-blank save as Keita looked to convert D’Ambrosio’s cross. After four minutes of added time, the referee blew the final whistle: Udinese vs. Inter finished in a goalless draw.

There are three games are left to play. They are three obstacles that need to be overcome as we look to qualify for next season’s Champions League. On Monday 13 May (20:30 CEST), we’ll be waiting for you at San Siro for our match against ChievoVerona!
