All the relevant facts and figures ahead of the Nerazzurri's second league fixture

MILAN – After their 4-0 opening day win over Lecce thanks to goals from Brozovic, Sensi, Lukaku and Candreva, Inter are preparing to play their first away fixture of the 2019/2020 Serie A TIM season.

The Nerazzurri’s opponents on Sunday 1 September will be Cagliari, and the match will mark the 79th meeting between the sides. Inter’s record against the Sardinian club reads as follows: 37 wins, 14 defeats and 27 draws. The Nerazzurri have scored 131 goals in total, while the Rossoblu have found the back of the net 79 times.

Maran’s side, who come into the game on the back of losing to Brescia, are the team who produced the most crosses from open play (25) on matchday one. Inter are one of six sides from the major European leagues to have had four different players score in a single match following their four-goal haul against Lecce (the others are Lyon, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig and Villarreal).

A sign of continuity: Marcelo Brozovic was the player who had the most touches in Italy’s top tier over the course of last season, and he started the 2019/2020 Serie A TIM season in the same fashion, making contact with the ball 130 times.

Prior to making his Inter debut against Lecce, Nicolò Barella had played all of his previous 100 Serie A matches for Cagliari, scoring seven times during that time. Another player who will be coming up against his former side is Matias Vecino, who played nine games for the Rossoblu in Serie A and found the back of the net twice. Meanwhile, Radja Nainggolan has returned to Cagliari after playing 29 matches and scoring six goals last season with the Nerazzurri.

New Inter signing Alexis Sánchez has a history of scoring against Cagliari: his last Serie goal in Serie A came against the Rossoblu away from home in March 2011.

The game at the Sardegna Arena will be the fourth encounter between Antonio Conte and Rolando Maran: so far, the Nerazzurri Coach has emerged victorious on every occasion with three 1-0 wins.
