After their #DerbyMilano win, Inter are set to play their fifth Serie A fixture of the season

MILAN – A quick return to the pitch! After the #DerbyMilano win, it’s now time to face Lazio on matchday five in Serie A TIM. In collaboration with Opta, here are all the relevant statistics ahead of the clash.

Inter and Lazio have met each other 152 times in Serie A. The Nerazzurri’s record against the Biancocelesti reads as follows: 63 wins, 36 defeats, 53 draws. Inter have won four of the five matches played between the sides on a Wednesday (one defeat).

PREVIOUS MEETINGS AT INTER’S GROUND

Lazio have won three of the past seven Serie A matches against Inter at San Siro (two draws and two defeats), as many wins as in the 44 games prior to this.

Lazio have only emerged victorious once in the last eight matches they’ve played in Lombardy in Serie A (two draws, five defeats) after winning two out of three before this.

FORM

Inter have won their last four home fixtures in Italy’s top tier, conceding only one goal in the process. Furthermore, the Nerazzurri haven’t let in more than one goal in Serie A at home since they played Torino in August 2018. Only twice in their history have Inter won all of their first five fixtures in the Italian top flight: in 1966/67 and 2015/16.

In five of the past seven seasons, Inter reached matchday five having conceded only one goal in their first four games. Inter’s defensive record is the best in the league at this early stage.

Lazio won their last league fixture against Parma. The Biancocelesti haven’t emerged victorious in two successive matches since March, when they beat Parma and then Inter.

GENERAL STATISTICS

Together with Napoli, Inter are one of only two sides who haven’t conceded a goal so far at home this season.

Lazio are the team who have hit the woodwork on the most occasions up to this point (six). The Nerazzurri are close behind them in this respect having hit either the bar or post five times.

No other side have scored more goals from headers than Inter over the first four matchdays: along with Cagliari and Torino, the Nerazzurri have netted three. On the other hand, Lazio haven’t scored any through headed efforts.

Conte’s side have allowed the fewest opposition shots at their goal at the start of the campaign: 40. Only ten of these were on target, another record at this early stage.

As for Lazio, no other team have had more efforts at goal than the Biancocelesti so far this season (31, the same as Atalanta).

From the start of last season, Inter have kept a clean sheet in 20 of the 42 Serie A games they’ve played – more than any other side.

Six of the ten goals scored by the Nerazzurri so far came through midfielders.

PLAYER FOCUS

Samir Handanovic is one game shy of his 300th Inter appearance in all competitions and is the goalkeeper with the highest save percentage at the start of this campaign (89%).

Lazio are the team Matías Vecino has scored the most goals against in Serie A (three), including his first-ever brace in Italy’s top tier (in May 2016).

Romelu Lukaku has scored in three of Inter’s first four Serie A games so far. The last player to score more than three times during their first five games in their first-ever season in Italy’s top tier while wearing the Inter shirt was Ronaldo (five games in five appearances in 1997).

Stefan de Vrij played his first 95 games in Serie A as a Lazio player, scoring eight goals in the process (all of which came with Simone Inzaghi in the Biancocelesti dugout).

Antonio Candreva made 151 Serie A appearances for Lazio between 2012 and 2016, scoring 41 goals. Samir Handanovic also played for the Biancocelesti. The goalkeeper was involved in one Serie A match for them in 2005/06.

Tommaso Berni’s first six appearances in the Italian top flight came while he was playing for Lazio. These were made between 2007 and 2011.

The two players who have had the most touches so far this campaign are Marcelo Brozovic (405) and Luis Alberto (380).

Out of all those who have provided at least 15 assists from 2016/17 to the present day in Serie A (his debut season in the Italian top flight), Luis Alberto is the player with the highest pass to assist ratio (24 of his passes have ended with goals, the equivalent of an assist every 225 minutes on average).

Out of all the teams who he’s faced at least three times in Serie A, Inter are the only side who Ciro Immobile hasn’t scored against in Italy’s top tier while playing for Lazio (in six previous meetings).

Ciro Immobile has been involved in five of the six goals that Lazio have scored so far this campaign (four goals, one assist).

COACHES

Antonio Conte could become the first Coach in Inter’s history to win all of his very first five league matches with the Nerazzurri.

Having won four times and drawn twice, Conte is unbeaten in Serie A against Lazio as a Coach. He has never come up against Simone Inzaghi while in the dugout in the Italian top flight.

Simone Inzaghi has won two of his seven Serie A games against Inter as a coach (one draw, four defeats): his first game and the most recent meeting between the sides.
