The first steps of his career, his arrival in Italy, post-match adrenaline. Anecdotes and facts about the Nerazzurri defender

MILAN – Imposing and decisive, like his interventions on the pitch. For Milan Skriniar, football is a fixed mindset, it’s about working daily and putting your head and feet towards helping the team. His desire to improve and strive for better has guided his growth, from the beginning of his career, to his arrival in Italy, up to coming to Inter where he’s won over the fans thanks to his performances. Here are five facts that the Nerazzurri defender revealed in his video chat for Inter TV and in his exclusive interview for the Matchday Programme.

POST-MATCH ADRENALINE

“When I come home after a game, I can’t sleep, because there’s too much adrenaline and I think about the game and everything that happened on the pitch.”

THE FIRST STEPS IN HIS CAREER…AS A MIDFIELDER

“I used to play for a team in Slovakia, and every now and again I’d join up with the first team. It was a great feeling to train with the older guys, but I was 16 and had a lot to learn. I made my professional debut when I was 17: I was a starter in the Slovakian league and played all 90 minutes. It finished 0-0 and I was playing as a midfielder at the time.”

HIS IMPROVEMENT IN ITALY

“Italian football has made me a better player, it’s more tactical and physical and there are many great players. Getting used to people reviewing your great performances leads to added responsibility and I stick to my guns knowing that I have to remain at a high level at all times.”

THE NUMBER 37

“In Slovakia, I wore the number 3, and I also liked 17, but when I arrived at Sampdoria they were both taken. So, I decided to mix the two and create 37: that’s my number and I like it!”

HIS NERAZZURRI IDOLS

“If I have to choose one Nerazzurri defender that I’ve always liked, I’d say Walter Samuel: he was strong and always made the difference. My favourite player? No doubt Ronaldo, El Fenomeno; I adored him, he was my idol.”
