Quotes from the Coach on the eve of Inter vs. Bologna

MILAN – Following their 6-0 home win against Brescia, Inter are preparing to host Mihajlovic’s Bologna at 17:15 CEST on Sunday 5 July at the Meazza. Ahead of the matchday 30 clash, Antonio Conte spoke exclusively to Inter TV: “We’re coming into this game on the back of a good performance where we played at a high tempo throughout the 90 minutes. The aspect of enthusiasm is important, but it needs to be present daily. When we head to Appiano to train, this enthusiasm is transferred onto the pitch. The team is doing well and wants to put in the hard work. We know that we’ll be facing a side that is in good shape physically, and I think it’ll be a great game.”

Inter’s opponents will be Mihajlovic’s Bologna: “They have quality players and an excellent coach in Sinisa. They play at a high tempo, we won the reverse fixture but it wasn’t easy: we needed to come from behind to pick up the three points. We know what kind of game awaits us tomorrow, the lads are prepared. We also like to play at a high tempo, showing courage and aggressivity in the process. I’m expecting a great game in the knowledge that Bologna are a tough obstacle to overcome. Palacio is doing extremely well, he performed superbly against us earlier on in the season. He’s a very intelligent player who plays for the team. Meanwhile, Sinisa has shown all his worth from a coaching perspective and is a great person who I very much like and have a lot of respect for. We know that a tough task awaits, we need to be on our game and give everything to overcome this obstacle.”

The Nerazzurri will be playing at 17:15 CEST for the first time: “The kick-off time will be a first for us. The conditions will be very hot for both of us, it remains to be seen how high the tempo remains throughout the 90 minutes. However, we’re two sides that like to press high, so I don’t think that the climate will completely change the playing style of the teams.”

Six different players scored for Inter in their six-goal victory over Brescia: “It’s a characteristic of this side. The fact that six different players found the net in the same game means that various players are joining in with the attack and that we play an offensive game. We’ve had the most goalscorers this season, which means that everybody is getting involved, both when we have the ball and when we’re out of possession. This results in our central defenders making an impact up top too, because there are also situations when they have to attack.”

With matches every three to four days, management and squad rotation has taken on a key role: “It’s important to be able to have plenty of squad depth because it allows you to rotate and create competition within the group. It also helps us handle the day-to-day business, so that whenever a player comes into the squad they can do so without major issues because they know exactly what they should be doing. I think rotating the squad is the right thing to do – the important thing is that work is done behind the scenes and that whoever comes in knows what they’re doing.”

Addressing the return of Marcelo Brozovic, Conte added: “We’re happy to have Brozo back at our disposal. He had a little problem with his quad that’s now been resolved, and inevitably he’s had to miss a few days of training and pre-match conditioning with the others, but the important thing is that he’s recovered physically and that he’s available. We’ll consider what’s best for him so that he’s match-ready and can get back on the pitch.”
