Gagliardini made his 100th Nerazzurri appearance in Inter's victory in Bergamo

Thanks to their 2-0 win against Atalanta in their last league fixture of the season, Inter finished their Serie A campaign with 82 points, just one shy of Juventus. In collaboration with Opta, here are all the best facts and figures to come out of yesterday’s victory.

82 POINTS, BEST DEFENCE AND SECOND BEST ATTACK

Different situations, but an interesting fact nonetheless: Inter finished their league campaign with 82 points, the same tally as they achieved in 2009/10 with José Mourinho at the helm. Prior to this season, the last four times that the Nerazzurri had collected at least 79 points in the three points per win era, they were crowned Italian champions (2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10).

Conte’s side also suffered the fewest defeats in the league this season: just four. The next best teams in this regard were Atalanta (six) and Juventus (seven). Furthermore, the Nerazzurri had the best defence in Serie A: Inter were breached 36 times, on six fewer occasions than Lazio, who had the second best backline. As for the attacking phase, Conte’s men scored the second highest number of goals, with their tally of 81 only being bettered by Atalanta’s 98-goal haul.

13 AWAY WINS

Inter have become the second side to pick up 13 away wins in a single Serie A campaign but not finish in first place (following on from Napoli in 2016/17 and 2017/18). The Nerazzurri achieved the most victories and collected the most points on the road: in addition to the aforementioned wins, they drew four times and lost just twice for a total of 43 points.

FOUR CONSECUTIVE CLEAN SHEETS

Inter finished the season with four clean sheets in a row. The last time that they kept the opposition out for four successive matches was in April 2018. The fact that Conte’s men stopped Atalanta from scoring was particularly significant given that the team from Bergamo had found the net in every single match they’d played since their 0-0 stalemate with Sampdoria in November.

THE YOUNG FACTOR

After arriving in January, Ashley Young has made a consistent and reliable contribution to the team. The goal he scored against Atalanta was his fourth in the Nerazzurri shirt, with the Englishman having also provided four assists. Previously, he hadn’t been involved in eight goals in a single season in one of the Top Five European leagues since 2011/12, when he contributed to 13 while at Manchester United.

D'AMBROSIO DOES IT AGAIN!

D’Ambrosio found the net for the second consecutive match against Atalanta. This was his fourth of the season, a personal record for the Italian defender. His finish against the Orobici, which came after 50 seconds, was the fastest goal scored this Serie A season. Interestingly, our defender’s four-goal haul was achieved from just seven shots.

GAGLIARDINI, 100 NOT OUT

He arrived at Inter from Atalanta in January 2017, and now Roberto Gagliardini has achieved a prestigious milestone: 100 appearances for Inter in all competitions. Yesterday’s 2-0 victory was his 91st league outing for Inter (eleven goals), with the Italian midfielder having also played five times in the Coppa Italia and on four occasions in the Champions League.
