Numbers and facts ahead of tomorrow's fixture

MILAN - A second game in 2021 for Inter, who - after the win against Crotone - take on Sampdoria at the Ferraris. The Nerazzurri kick off at 15:00 CET. Here are the stats, head-to-head and fun facts for Serie A matchday 16.

RECORD BETWEEN SAMPDORIA AND INTER

This will be the 127th meeting between Inter and Sampdoria. The record from the 126 previous meetings reads 69 Inter wins, 20 losses and 37 draws.

Inter have won each of their last six Serie A matches against Sampdoria. Only during the 40s and 50s did the Nerazzurri win seven in a row against the Blucerchiati in the league. The last draw between the two teams was in October 2015 (1-1, Perisic with the goal for Inter): in the nine meetings since, Inter have won seven and lost two.

Inter have also won each of their last six games at the Ferraris, in matches against both Sampdoria and Genoa.

In the 2019/20 season, Inter won 3-1 at Marassi (Sensi, Sanchez and Gagliardini).

FACTS: FROM RANIERI TO KEITA, THE EXES OF THE FIXTURE

Claudio Ranieri, Sampdoria’s current coach, took charge of Inter for 35 games in the 2011/12, overseeing 17 wins, five draws and 13 defeats.

Milan Skriniar is in his fourth season with the Nerazzurri, but made his Serie A debut with Sampdoria in 2016/17.

Andrea Ranocchia played 14 times in the top flight with the Blucerchiati in 2015/16, while Daniele Padelli was on Samp’s books but never played a league game.

There are two former Inter men in the Blucerchiati’s squad: Candreva and Keita.

Antonio Candreva played 124 times in Serie A for Inter, scoring twelve goals. The Sampdoria midfielder has, in fact, scored more Serie A goals against the Nerazzurri than any other team (five, all with Lazio).

Keita Baldé (one goal in his last appearance against Inter in Serie A in May 2017 with Lazio) played 24 games in 2018/19 with the Nerazzurri, scoring five goals.

CURRENT FORM AND STATS

Inter are second in the table on 36 points, Sampdoria are eleventh on 17.

With their victory over Crotone, Inter extended their run of consecutive victories in the league to eight games (their record is 17 - 2016/17).

The Nerazzurri’s march has been helped on by some clinical finishing in front of goal, with 40 goals scored in their first 15 games (best attack in the competition).

Inter have netted in each of their last 13 Serie A away matches (with an average of 2.5 goals per game), and haven’t lost once in that time: nine wins and four draws.

Sampdoria have scored in 15 consecutive Serie A home matches: the Blucerchiati’s best run at home since 1994 (16).

PLAYER FOCUS

If Lautaro Martínez scores (nine goals this season), Inter could have two players (the other being Lukaku) reach double figures after 16 games in Serie A for their first time since 1958/59 (Angelillo and Firmani).

With his next appearance, Samir Handanovic (493) would overtake Andrea Pirlo (493) in the all-time appearance list in Serie A, and would reach Tarcisio Burgnich (494) in 16th.

If he plays, Arturo Vidal (399) will become the first Chilean player to reach 400 appearances in Europe’s Top-5 leagues since the turn of the millennium.

Ashley Young’s next game will be his 400th in Europe’s Top-5 leagues.
