Martinez and Correa’s Argentina beat Bolivia, Vecino’s Uruguay won and Vidal’s Chile were beaten

It was a big night of World Cup 2022 qualification football in South America on Thursday evening, with four Inter players involved for their respective national teams.

Lautaro Martinez started for Argentina as they won 3-0 against Bolivia courtesy of a hat-trick from Martinez’s strike partner Leo Messi. Joaquin Correa came off the bench on 62 minutes to share the pitch with Martinez, who was then brought off on 71 minutes.

Matias Vecino started and played the full 90 minutes as Uruguay beat Ecuador 1-0, Gaston Pereiro scoring the winner in second-half stoppage time. Vecino thought he’d scored minutes beforehand, on 86 minutes, but the goal was chalked off for offside following a VAR review.

Arturo Vidal was on the losing side for Chile, who were beaten 3-1 by Colombia. Vidal started and played the full 90 minutes.

Below is how the South American qualifying group is stacking up:

Brazil 24 Argentina 18 Uruguay 15 Ecuador 14 Colombia 13 Paraguay 11 Peru 8 Chile 7 Bolivia 6 Venezuela 4
