The Nerazzurri narrow the gap: they are now just two points behind Napoli, who were held at Sassuolo

Inter have won for the third Serie A game in a row. After having overcome Napoli and Venezia, on Wednesday evening Spezia were the latest victims of Simone Inzaghi's side. It's the first time the coach has won three games on the bounce during his tenure at the helm of Inter, and also marks three 2-0 wins and as many clean sheets in a row. It's also the fourth consecutive game in which Inter have scored at least twice.

The midweek win at San Siro has seen Inter get ever closer to the Serie A summit. Napoli could only muster a 2-2 draw at Sassuolo and with that result sit only two points above the Nerazzurri. Luciano Spalletti's team are on 36 points, Milan are on 35 and Inter on 34 (click here to see the full table). Inter are back in action on Saturday at 18:00 CET away at Roma.

In scoring twice against Spezia the Nerazzurri have stretched their run of finding the net at least once to 34 matches, totalling 80 goals across all of these fixtures. The last time Inter failed to score was in a 0-0 away draw against Udinese back on 23 January. This is Inter's best scoring streak since the Italian top flight became a single-group affair back in the 1929/30 season.

GAGLIARDINI'S LIGURIAN DELIGHT CONTINUES

Roberto Gagliardini's strike was Inter's breakthrough against Spezia. With his strike it means that 13 different players have found the net for Inter in this Serie A campaign; no other team has such a variety of goalscorers.

Gagliardini's strike was his 15th in Serie A for the Nerazzurri. He's scored in 13 different games and every time the 27-year-old finds the net Inter win. Interestingly eight of his 15 strikes have come against sides from Liguria, scoring five times against Genoa, twice against Sampdoria, and once against Spezia.

UNSTOPPABLE LAUTARO

Inter were all over Spezia, getting 14 shots on goal in the first half and 31 by the end of the match. Not since November 2019 when the Nerazzurri beat Hellas 2-1 had they peppered an opponent's goal with such a barrage of attempts. In that match they had 38 shots on goal.

Six of these 31 were by Lautaro Martinez, who managed all of these before being subbed in the 73rd minute. The Argentine along almost equaled Spezia's entire output for shots on goal, who finished the game with seven.

It was Lautaro's third goal in as many games, the second occasion the forward has gone on such a run in 2021. His last such run ended after four games, spanning the end of the 2020/21 season and the current campaign.

The 24-year-old was also involved in the opener, providing Gagliardini with an assist, the first time since May had Lautaro both supplied and provided a goal. Just as against Venezia he scored his penalty, making it three successful spot kicks out of four this season. His Serie A total stands at nine out of 11.
