MILAN – Ivan Juric’s Torino will be the last opponents for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter in 2021. The Nerazzurri come into the game at the Meazza as league leaders, at the top with 43 points and the best attack in Serie A with 48 goals scored.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS

There have been 154 games between Inter and Torino in Serie A. The Nerazzurri have won 69, Torino 36 and 49 draws played out. Only Juventus have won more games against Torino in Serie A (74) against the 69 wins for Inter.

Inter have won their last four games against Torino in the league, scoring at least twice in each game. Torino’s last win against Inter came in January 2019, followed since then by the four wins on the bounce for the Nerazzurri.

Torino have scored in 10 of their last 11 league games against Inter but have only won three of those meetings (D3, L5).

HOME FORM

Inter have won the last two Serie A games at home against Torino, having taken two wins in the last eight home fixtures against them (D4, L2).

Both teams have scored in the last six league clashes between Inter and Torino at the Meazza with a total of 22 goals between them, an average of 3.7 per match.

In 17 away meetings in the league since 1994/95, only twice have Torino been able to keep a clean sheet.

FORM BOOK

Inter have won 18 home league games in 2021. In their last five, the Nerazzurri have a goal difference of 16-0. They have never had a better run in Serie A without conceding a goal.

Inter have scored more than one goal in 20 of their last 23 fixtures in the competition. In 11 of these, they have scored at least three times.

Torino have won their last two league clashes and haven’t done better during a Serie A campaign since March 2019. However, they have lost five of their eight away games played this season (W1, D2).

GENERAL STATS

Inter are the first team to score more than 100 goals in Serie A in a calendar year (103) since AC Milan did so back in 1950.

Looking at this season alone, the Nerazzurri have scored at least 48 goals in the opening half of the season for the first time since 1950/51 (53 after 19 games played). The only other team to have done better in the first half of the season was Atalanta in 2019/20 (49).

Inter have scored from 12 headers this season, more than any other team and one less than the record set by Fiorentina (13 in 2005/06) in the first half of the season since Serie A returned to having 20 teams in 2004/05.

Inter and Napoli have the joint best defensive record from open play (eight conceded). The Nerazzurri also have the league's second-best defence, behind Napoli.

Torino have let in fewer goals in the first half this season than any other team (just five). They have conceded 72% of their goals in the second half (13/18).

PLAYER FOCUS

Lautaro Martinez has scored in five games on the bounce in Serie A. The last Inter player to do this in the competition was Julio Cruz, which came on 7 December 2007.

The Argentine forward has found the net in the last four Serie A games against Torino. Since 1994/95 only three Inter players have scored in five games in a row against the same opponent in the league (Christian Vieri v Parma and Perugia, Mauro Icardi v Fiorentina and Ivan Perisic v Chievo). Since that year no player has scored in five games in a row against Torino.

The next game will be Stefano Sensi’s 100th appearance in Serie A and the 150th in all competitions for Roberto Gagliardini wearing the Inter shirt.

Edin Dzeko has scored three goals coming on as a sub in this season’s Serie A; he’s never scored more in a single season in the competition. The last time he scored more in Europe’s top five leagues was in 2012/13 with six for Manchester City.

Torino are the only team against which Federico Dimarco has scored more than one goal in Serie A: both in 2021 with Verona, when Ivan Juric was the coach.

Torino is the team against which Alexis Sanchez has the most assists in Europe’s top five leagues: five in five encounters. The Chilean also scored a goal in Serie A against them in November 2020.

Stefan de Vrij scored his first goal as an player Inter in August 2018 against Torino at San Siro.

Danilo D'Ambrosio played 42 times and scored four goals for Torino between the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons.
