In the official Inter podcast, Richard and Thomas will assess the players who have propelled the Nerazzurri to the top of the table. Edin Dzeko has been an incredible piece of recruitment whilst Ivan Perisic has brought back a winning mentality he found at Bayern Munich and has looked like he has the Scudetto in his sights. Federico Dimarco’s deliveries have reminded Nerazzurri fans of a certain vintage, of Andreas Brehme and Joaquin Correa has shown flashes of brilliance. Nicolo Barella is an elite midfielder who looks even more mature and what can you say about Lautaro? Oh and we haven’t even mentioned Marcelo Brozovic yet.

Perhaps a man whose arrival at Inter was noticed but not appreciated was Hakan Calhanoglu. There are not a constant stream of players who swap the red and black for the blue and black but the Turkish number 20 is one who dared to do. Since he transferred to Inter he has not only proven himself, he has changed his role and his attitude, determination and tactical intelligence has been amplified under the coaching of Inzaghi.

Hakan has showed that he is not simply a deep lying midfielder who can score the odd goal of the season but instead has filled a void left by the incredibly talented and missed, Christian Eriksen. Whilst not the typical trequartista, he has shown that he is enjoying his offensive role well and his technical ability has allowed him to fulfil the gap left by the Nerazzurri’s unfortunate Dane. Pace, power and confidence has seen him notch up six goals and seven assists in 16 appearances and it is this utilitarian approach that has been characteristic of so many of the team. It is true Inter lost Romelu Lukaku this campaign but it is credit to players like Hakan that prove the squad is mature and have stepped up to fill the void.

Let’s not forget just how good Calhanoglu is at set pieces have been also, it is rare that Inter do not pose a threat from these positions these days and it is because the Turkish International is so precise. Players such as Edin Dzeko have certainly appreciated this constant outlet. All in all it is safe to say that for a free transfer Inter have invested well in the midfielder and there is no doubt that he has been a stand out player.

So have a listen to the official Inter podcast with Richard and Thomas as they talk in depth about the players who have helped Inzaghi create a mature and creative team who look like they can challenge for the Scudetto again. Retaining the title isn’t easy but these individuals playing as a team certainly will help them have the best chance.
