The Nerazzurri went into the game seven points behind the joint leaders but a determined display – driven by an exceptional San Siro crowd – saw them come back from Piotr Zielinski's early opener thanks Hakan Calhanoglu's penalty and further strikes by Ivan Perisic and Lautaro Martinez.
The visitors mustered a late rally and reduced the arrears through Dries Mertens but Simone Inzaghi's side dug in and held on to claim a massive three points in the title race.
