INTERNATIONALS | 7 NERAZZURRI INVOLVED WITH BASTONI, DZEKO AND CALHANOGLU AMONG THE GOALS

Barella, Bastoni, Dimarco, Calhanoglu, Dzeko, Dumfries and De Vrij in Nations League action

Plenty of Nerazzurri stars were in international action on Tuesday with Nations League fixtures coming thick and fast. A total of seven were involved, with Alessandro Bastoni, Edin Dzeko and Hakan Calhanoglu getting on the scoresheet.

ITALY – Barella, Bastoni, Dimarco
Italia faced Germany at Borussia-Park in Monchengladbach on Matchday 4 in the UEFA Nations League (Group 3, League A), but it turned into a forgettable night for Roberto Mancini’s side as Germany ran out 5-2 winners. Bastoni and Nicolo Barella both started and played the full 90 minutes, while Federico Dimarco came on for Leonardo Spinazzola on 65 minutes before helping Italy strike a consolation by setting up Wilfried Gnonto. Dimarco went close to scoring himself with a fine effort from long range before grabbing another assist, this time from a corner, for team-mate Bastoni to head home. It was the defender’s maiden goal for the Azzurri.

As a result, Italy slipped down into third place in Group 3 behind Hungary and Germany.

NETHERLANDS – Dumfries, De Vrij
The Netherlands were involved in a thriller at home to Wales in Rotterdam in which the hosts clinched a 3-2 victory in stoppage time just moments after the visitors had equalised. Denzel Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij both entered the fray at the start of the second half.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA – Dzeko
Edin Dzeko’s Bosnia and Herzegovina took on Finland in Zenica in League B of the Nations League. The Inter number 9 notched a brace, taking him up to 63 international goals, during his 90 minutes on the pitch, helping his team to a 3-2 victory and the top of Group 3 League B.

TURKEY – Calhanoglu
Turkey beat Lithuania 2-0 at the Gursel Aksel Stadium in Izmir in League 3. Calhanoglu, who started the game and was withdrawn on 84 minutes, converted a penalty for Turkey’s second and final goal on the night.
