Nerazzurri edge Tuscans in Carnival Cup final rematch. Still clear at top of table with game in hand

EMPOLI - Inter beat Empoli 1-0 in Saturday's Campionato Primavera meeting at the Centro Sportivo Monteboro - a repeat of the 2008 Carnival Cup final.

Esposito's team wrapped up the win with a text-book move in the 35th minute. Luca Siligardi skipped past two opponents on left and crossed into the box, Napoli letting it roll through to Destro who converted from close range.

The Nerazzurri went into Saturday's match with a number of key players sidelined, including Mario Balotelli (flu), Gianluca Litteri (clavical problem), Sebastian Ribas (operation in Pavia this morning on fifth metatarsal in left foot), the suspended Daniele Federici (Inter to lodge appeal), and N'Ze, Desenclos and Lacheheb.

Inter looked to build on their lead in the second half and Gabriele Puccio struck against the post with a sweet left-foot strike. Empoli went close to an equaliser when Caponi's long-range shot hit the upright.

Empoli keeper D'Oria did well to keep out Puccio's header before his team-mate Fabbrini wasted a chance, hitting high over the bar from inside the six-yard box.
