INTER EXIT VIAREGGIO CUP IN SEMIS

Aiman Napoli gives Nerazzurri late lifeline but Sampdoria hold on for 2-1 victory

VIAREGGIO (LUCCA) - Sampdoria stopped Inter's bid to win a second consecutive Viareggio Cup with a 2-1 victory over the Nerazzurri in Saturday's semi-final at the Stadio Dei Pini.

Ferrari gave the Blucerchiati a dream start, firing past Belec in the opening minute. Bocalon had a handful of chances for an equaliser but Sampdoria took a commanding 2-0 lead into the break when Mustacchio converted Pondaco's assist.

Vincenzo Esposito brought on Antonio Esposito and Luca Tremolada for Daminuta and Krhin at the start of the second half, later replacing Beretta with Mattia Destro, and a top-heavy Inter created chance after chance, but Samp keeper Fiorillo and his defenders made a series of blocks.

Captain Aiman Napoli set up an exciting finale with nine minutes remaining when he converted a penalty kick after a foul by Grieco on Obi in the area, but Sampdoria held out for victory.
