MILAN - Inter Primavera's bid to qualify for the final eight of the Trofeo Giacinto Facchetti ended in disappointment as Fulvio Pea's boys lost 2-1 on aggregate to Empoli after a 1-1 draw in the return leg of their last 16 clash.
The Nerazzurri, beaten 1-0 in the first leg, were on the back foot after 37 minutes of play at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza when Crafa converted a low cross from Mazzanti.
Mattia Destro sparked hopes of a comeback with the equalising goal (his 19th of the season) on 73 minutes, receiving Alibec's neat through ball before rounding Addario and firing into an open net.
But Inter, playing before a crowd of approximately 1,000 which included first-team defender Marco Materazzi, still needed to score twice and the Empoli goalkeeper made some important saves in the final stages as his team held out for the draw.
