MILAN - "It’s nice to be top of the table but we need to be realistic. It’s been a good a journey so far but there’s a long way to go from here until the end of the season. Everyone is running out in front. We’re happy though and have no intention of coming down." This was what Sporting Director Piero Ausilio said as he was a guest on Domenica Sportiva following the Nerazzurri’s great win over ChievoVerona.
Ausilio was then asked about Icardi. "He can only get better. He’s only 24 and to think that he’s shown all of his potential is wrong. Are we worried that Real Madrid could pay his release clause? A lot of things have been heard but for Real, rather than paying the clause, the problem would be convincing Mauro to abandon the project at Inter which he certainly feels a part of. He’s our captain and wants to win with our colours."
The January transfer window was then discussed. "We have clear ideas. As the Coach says, our group is made up of players who are all starters. They’ve all had and will have chances to show what they can do. It was Ranocchia’s turn today to play from the first minute and he showed that he has heart and quality. The group is our strength, everyone helps one another to work and they get on well together. This team could only be improved by the addition of a really great player but I’ve not seen that they’ll be available in January."
Saturday’s match will be a very important one against Juventus. "In football, you can never be afraid but there’s only respect for every opponent and in these years they’ve shown that they’re very strong. They’ll be up against an Inter side that will do everything to make life hard though. It’s a a great match and not just because it could be crucial, it’s still always the Derby d’Italia and with both teams at the top, it’s the match."
